PHOENIX, Arizona, October 30. THIS weekend, we feature a pair of meets in the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com<\/b> Meet of the Week program. First, we put the spotlight on the Indianapolis at Truman State two-day match-up in Missouri. NExt, we will look at the Ashland at Grand Valley State meet on Nov. 3.<\/p>\n

Indianapolis' Last Time Out:<\/b>
\nBehind the strength of four NCAA B cuts and a school record, the University of Indianapolis swimming and diving teams each notched wins over host Ashland University on Oct. 20. The Greyhound men cruised to a 136-95 win, while the women fended off the Eagles for a 106-99 victory in the dual.<\/p>\n
The 200 and 1000 freestyle events were the highlight events on both sides as each saw an NCAA B-standard by a Greyhound. Ellie Miller won the 1000 free (10:40.24), part of her two wins on the day. Alican Alacli etched a UIndy record in the men's 1000 free with his 9:34.66 effort.<\/p>\n
The 200 free saw reigning Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Female Swimmer of the Week Isabela Tafur go 1:56.53 for her second B-cut in that event in two weeks. Alex Arestis turned the trick on the men's side, touching in 1:43.89.<\/p>\n
Other highlights of the day included Tafur also winning the 100 free. Erica Smith was the top finisher in the 200-yard individual medley, marking a 2:14.59 time while also winning the 200 butterfly (2:13.75). Alacli went sub 2-minutes in the 200 fly, etching a 1:59.69 effort.<\/p>\n
Chad Damitz managed a sub-2:00 time in the 200 backstroke with his winning 1:59.57 performance. Yaman Oguz took the 500 freestyle and Randy Weiss won both the 1- and 3-meter springboard to help the men to victory.<\/p>\n
Looking forward with Indianapolis head coach Gary Kinkead:<\/b>
\nThe strength and depth of the Truman State women's team will be difficult to compete against. They have such a tradition of excellence. I hope we can compete up to our potential and swim well.<\/p>\n
The men's meet will be very exciting and there should be lots of close races. We match up very well together, and it could come down to the final relay.<\/i><\/p>\n
Truman State's Last Time Out:<\/b>
\nThe Bulldog swim teams opened their season Saturday in Springfield, Mo. The men and women's teams swam against Division I Missouri State and Division II conference rival Delta State. The women's team defeated Delta's women handily, while Missouri State outscored the Bulldogs by nine points, with a score of 124-115. The men lost to both Delta and Missouri State, with scores of 118-112 and 192-38, respectively.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the women's meet was the 400 medley relay, which placed first and achieved a Division II national cut. The relay members, senior Emily Greenwood, freshman Emily Buss, and seniors Laura Harp and Emily Pufall, swam a time of 3:55.84. Greenwood's lead off time in the backstroke (57.64), earned her a Hammons pool record.<\/p>\n
Senior Molly Polette swept the mid-distance freestyles, winning the 200 and 500 with B cut times of 1:55.71 and 5:11.15 respectively.<\/p>\n
Other wins against Missouri State include senior Whitney Wodstrchill's 200 backstroke (2:07.20- B cut), and the 400 freestyle relay, consisting of sophomores Kate Aherne and Kendra Brunkow, and Polette and Pufall (3:34.53).<\/p>\n
Against Delta, the Bulldogs swept the meet, winning all 11 events. Other B cuts achieved include Wodstrchill's 1,000 freestyle (10:42.64), Aherne's 50 freestyle (24.78), freshman Anna Grinter's 200 butterfly, Greenwood's 200 backstroke (2:09.26), and Aherne's 100 freestyle, leading off the 400 freestyle relay (53:58).<\/p>\n
The Bulldog men finished with four wins against Delta State. The 400 medley relay, consisting of senior Alext Totura, sophomore Matt Schwiebert, freshman Paul Wanamaker, and senior Ryan Ferrell defeated Delta with a time of 3:37.94.<\/p>\n
The second relay of the day, the 400 freestyle, showed the team's depth with first and second finishes. The A relay (Totura, junior Jason Stokes, junior Andrew McCall, and freshman Charlie Ellertson) finished first with a time of 3:15.86. The B relay (Wanamaker, senior Adam Pruess, junior Peter McCall, and Ferrell) followed closely behind with a time of 3:18.01.<\/p>\n
Kyle Ruiz swam a strong 1,000 freestyle, coming from over five seconds behind at the 500 to win with a time of 10:08.11.<\/p>\n
Other wins came in the sprint freestyle events: Stokes' 50 freestyle (21.65), and Totura's 100 freestyle (47.85).<\/p>\n

\n We are very excited to race against Indianapolis this weekend. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Gary Kinkead's program. His swimmers are well coached and place consistently in the top 10 at the division II national meet. We will look forward to many great races on both the men's and women's side. We will be competing in every event with the exception of the 800 free relay during the two day dual meet. The men's meet has the potential to come down to the final relay on both days. <\/i><\/p>\n
