FINA released its second update of the top-three rankings in the FINA World Cup series today.  After a record-setting stop in Singapore, the United States still owns the top spots with Natalie Coughlin, who <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/15967.asp>lowered<\/a> her 100 SCM back world record in Singapore, and Randall Bal sitting atop the proverbial mountain in the series.<\/p>\n<p>Coughlin, the top swimmer of the moment after her record-setting swim in her pet event, leads the women&#39;s rankings with 70 points.  Sweden&#39;s Therese Alshammar stands second with 40 points, while Sweden&#39;s Anna-Karin Kammerling and Singapore&#39;s Li Tao sit tied for third with 16 points each.  Whether Coughlin&#39;s lead stands up throughout the entire series is somewhat questionable as she has stated publicly that she intends on taking the rest of the series off until the final stop in Belo Horizonte.  <\/p>\n<p>Bal, on the other hand, stretched his lead out to 50 points over South Africa&#39;s Roland Schoeman&#39;s 32 points.  Meanwhile, Russia&#39;s Nikolay Skvortsov and South Africa Gerhard Zandberg are tied for third with 20 points each.<\/p>\n<p>While there are various other event-win and world-record bonuses included in the prize money allocated for the World Cup series, the overall winners receive $100,000, while those placing second and third overall will receive $50,000 and $30,000, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><img src=http:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/media\/6star.jpg><br \/>\n<img src=http:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/media\/5star.jpg><br \/>\n<img src=http:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/media\/4star.jpg><br \/>\n<img src=http:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/media\/3star.jpg><br \/>\n<img src=http:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/media\/2star.jpg><br \/>\n<img src=http:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/media\/whitestarsmall.jpg><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAUSANNE, Switzerland, October 29.
