SWIMINFO learned today that adidas America has signed U.S. breaststroke world record-holder, Ed Moses, to a lucrative, two-year endorsement deal.<\/p>\n
"It came down to a decision between adidas and Speedo," said Moses, 20, who is forgoing the final two years of his collegiate eligibility at the University of Virginia to turn pro. <\/p>\n
"Both offers were very generous, but I decided on adidas because I really like the adidas bodysuit, 'Equipment,' and I want to be their top swimmer in the U.S. They have Ian Thorpe in Australia and me in the U.S. Speedo has several outstanding swimmers." <\/p>\n
While Moses declined to divulge the specific terms of the agreement, he said "it will definitely help me out financially. There are good bonus provisions, so if I swim up to my capability, great things will happen for me."<\/p>\n
Chris Duplanty, adidas America's swim sales manager, commented: "We feel thrilled and fortunate to have a partnership with someone like Ed. He is truly a perfect representative of the sport of swimming and its athletes, both in and out of the water."<\/p>\n
Last year, Moses recorded the fastest time in the world in the 100 meter (long course) breaststroke. In March, at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, he set short course world records in the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke. He has set his sights on world records and Olympic gold medals in both long course events, and predicted he would become the first swimmer to break the magic one-minute barrier in the shorter event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
