POUGHKEEPSIE, New York, October 26. THE Fordham swimming & diving teams split their meet with Marist College this evening in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Fordham women (1-0) topped the Red Foxes, 154-87, while the Fordham men (0-1) were edged out in the final two events, falling by a 127-116 count.<\/p>\n
On the women's side, sophomores Caitlin Napoli and Nicole Marshall led the way, with two individual event wins and a victory in the 400 medley relay. Along with Christina Cosentino and Amanda Ciccone, they started the night by winning the 400 medley relay in 3:57.91. Napoli then went on to take first in the 200 freestyle (1:54.87) and the 200 butterfly (2:07.52), while Marshall won the 200 IM (2:09.90) and the 200 breaststroke (2:26.84).<\/p>\n
Fordham posted wins in four other individual events and the 400 freestyle relay. Ashley Ukleja won the 500 freestyle (10:34.42) with Tressa Dunn following with a win in the 50 freestyle (25.66). Ciccone took the 100 freestyle (54.00), while Cosentino won the 200 backstroke (2:09.63).<\/p>\n
In the 400 freestyle relay, the group of Dunn, Kristin Colton, Amanda Irving, and Ciccone won in a time of 3:40.26.<\/p>\n
For the men, Fordham was outlasted by Marist in the final two events to take an 11-point victory. Following the final diving event, Fordham led 104-103 with the 200 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay remaining. Marist took first in both events, thwarting the Rams' night.<\/p>\n
Fordham's Ryan Coombs led the way with two wins, and helped the 400 medley relay team to a first place finish in 3:34.28. Individually, Coombs took the 200 freestyle in 1:46.03 and the 200 butterfly in 1:59.38. Donnie Callara also had two wins in the diving, scoring 283.87 in the one-meter and 278.48 in the three-meter.<\/p>\n
Justin Coombs and Robert Gitman concluded the wins for Fordham. Both were a part of the winning 400 medley relay team, while Coombs took the 100 freestyle (48.81), while Gitman won the 200 backstroke (1:57.60).<\/p>\n
