On Oct. 4, a proposal was presented to Chancellor Nancy Cantor and the Syracuse University Board of Trustees. The proposal asked that the one-year grace period that Athletic Director Daryl Gross has given the team to compete this year be extended to a three-year period, over which time funding and mechanisms for ensuring both short-term and long-term financial solvency of the program be established. <\/p>\n

The Committee's short-term goal is to seek financial support to offset operating costs of the Swimming and Diving program. The long-term goal is to endow in whole, or in part, the coaching positions and the maximum number of scholarships allowed by the NCAA, with an eventual goal of funding a Syracuse Recreational Center as a shared resource between the Community and the University that will house a 50-meter swimming and diving facility, an ice rink and a fully equipped fitness and recreational center.<\/p>\n
