Kennedy) was a double-event winner for the Hawks, winning both the 200 freestyle (1:52.03) and the 500 freestyle (5:08.15).

New Paltz rises to 1-0 with the win and hosts Ramapo College tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in its home opener. Vassar drops to 1-1 with the loss and next visits Skidmore College on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m.

A large reason for the Hawks’ win came off of a pair of relay victories. New Paltz’s depth kept the score close, as the Hawks overcame nine Vassar first-place finishes in the swimming events.

New Paltz drops to 0-1 with the loss and hosts Ramapo College tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in its home opener. Vassar rises to 2-0 with the victory and next visits Skidmore College on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m.

Freshman Jaimie Kaefer (North Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Stone went on to finish first in the 500 free to push the Brewers back ahead in the team scoring late, hitting a time of 5:18.71. Harrington, Corbett, Kuo and Nelson (3:55.36) swam a strong race as well, outpacing the New Paltz ‘B’ team by nearly six tenths of a second.

It came down to the final race of the evening, as SUNY-New Paltz held off the Vassar men’s swimming team 149-132 Friday night in a dual meet at Kresge Pool. The ‘C’ relay for the Hawks in the 400 yard freestyle relay came through with the 11-point win (3:22.77), after Vassar trailed just four points, 134-130, heading into the event.

The Brewers still turned in plenty of big performances, as the team secured nine total event victories, including three apiece for freshman Jonah Strand and sophomore Anthony Walker.

Strand started off his evening with a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.10), finishing less than a second off of his career best.
