BOISE, Idaho, October 19. IN their first home meet of the 2007-08 season against conference foe San Jose State, the Boise State swimming and diving team defeated the Spartans 172-125. <\/p>\n
"We had a great showing tonight from start to finish," said head coach Kristin Hill. "We had set a goal of swimming faster in all of our events and we definitely achieved that goal. With that came an overall team win and it was a total team effort. To beat a quality opponent like San Jose State is outstanding this early in the season." <\/p>\n
In just their fifth meet of the season, the Broncos have already rewritten the record books, as they set 12 school records. Overall, the Broncos set school records in the 200 freestyle, 1000 free, 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 200 back and 100 breaststroke, 200 breast, 200 IM, 200 free relay and three-meter diving. On the night, the Broncos took the title in 11 of the meets 16 events. <\/p>\n
Freshman Nathalie Rohling took first place in the 200 free while recording a Boise State record with a time of 1:57.25. Teammate Denise Green not only notched a career-best in the 100 back, but finished first in the event with a time of 1:00.73, edging out teammate Andrea Thiltgen. <\/p>\n
Tara Hahto was hot last week in Colorado and continued to make her presence known as she took first place and notched a career-high 1:06.68 in the 100 breast and in the 200 breast with a time of 2:22.92. The freshman went on to finish strong in the 200 individual medley, setting a career-high with a time of 2:09.81, notching seven seconds off of her previous record. On the night, Hahto garnered three individual titles.<\/p>\n
Allison Hall broke her previous record in the 200 fly, taking first place with a time of 2:06.49. Hall then went on to set a new record in the 100 fly, as she swam a 58.49 and taking first in the event, while teammate Sammy Sanchez-O'Dell finished third with a time of 1:00.13. <\/p>\n
Freshman Jenny Nowatzke also set a school record as she recorded a new personal best in the 50 free, placing second in the event with a time of 24.64. Kim Nelson led the Broncos with a third place finish in the 100 free with a time of 55.44.<\/p>\n
Leading the way in the 200 back was Green with a career-best time of 2:11.63 to finish second, while Thiltgen notched a third place finish as she swam a 2:12.52 in the event. <\/p>\n
In the distance events, the Broncos took the first two positions as freshman Rachael Meisner garnered the title and set a school record with a time of 10:36.68 while Katelyn LoFland placed second with a time of 10:38.25. Their positions switched in the 500 free as LoFland took first in the event with a time of 5:14.92, while Meisner placed second as she swam a 5:15.49.<\/p>\n
The divers placed well in the one-meter as freshman Megan Morton finished second in the event with a 203.80, followed by Jennifer Dorling in third with a 195.40 and teammate Alyssa Daly in fourth place with a score of 157.0. <\/p>\n
The three-meter was another high-scoring event for the Broncos as Morton won her first collegiate event while recording a school record as she tallied a career-high 197.45. Dorling also notched a career-high score of 194.50 for second place, while Daly took fourth scoring a 142.20. <\/p>\n
As a team, the Broncos opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.67. To close out the night, the Broncos finished second in the 200 free relay, recording a record time of 139.74<\/p>\n
