Women’s 100 Freestyle<\/h3>\n

Rikako Ikee<\/strong> (CLB)\u00a0led all qualifiers through the heats, touching with the fastest time out of Heat 4. Right next to her was second qualifier American\u00a0Natalie Coughlin<\/strong>, who will also be in the middle lanes for the finals session after touching just behind in 55.33. Iron Lady Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> was just one-hundreth behind in 55.34 to nab the third qualifying spot, setting the stage for what is sure to be a close race to kick off the finals session later on.<\/p>\n

Top rest of the top 8 will be Melanie<\/strong>\u00a0Wright<\/strong> (AUS), Miki\u00a0<\/strong>Uchida<\/strong> (CLB), Felicia<\/strong>\u00a0Lee<\/strong> (USA), Tomomi\u00a0<\/strong>Aoki<\/strong> (CLB), and Misaki<\/strong> Yamagughi<\/strong> (CLB).<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 Freestyle<\/h3>\n

Yuuki Kobori<\/strong> (CLB) will have the center lane in tonight’s final of the Men’s 200 Freestyle after posting the top time of 1:49.42. Right behind him with matching 1:49.80’s were American Zane Grothe<\/strong> and Nalto Ehara<\/strong> (CLB) from heat’s four and five, respectively.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0rest of the final will be made up of Reo\u00a0<\/strong>Sakata<\/strong> (CLB), Ewan<\/strong>\u00a0Jackson<\/strong> (NZL), Takeshi\u00a0<\/strong>Matsuda<\/strong> (CLB), Naoya\u00a0<\/strong>Tsuruga<\/strong> (CLB), and Alex<\/strong>\u00a0Graham<\/strong> (AUS).<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 Breaststroke<\/h3>\n

Alia Atkinson<\/strong> of Jamaica led all qualifiers from heat 3 of the women’s 50 breaststroke, touching in a swift 30.86. Right behind her was American Molly Hannis<\/strong> in 30.93. Hannis<\/strong> will surely be looking to channel the momentum from her close win the 100 breaststroke on the first night of finals.<\/p>\n

The rest of the final will be comprised of\u00a0Jennie Johansson\u00a0<\/strong>(SWE),\u00a0Leiston Pickett\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS),\u00a0Satomi Suzuki\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Misaki Sekiguchi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Laura Sogar\u00a0<\/strong>(USA),\u00a0and\u00a0Jessica Hansen\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS).<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Breaststroke<\/h3>\n

Jake Packard\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS) put on a show in Heat 4 of the Men’s 100 Breaststroke, just out-touching\u00a0Cameron Van Der Burgh\u00a0<\/strong>(RSA) in the next lane 1:01.44 to 1:01.47. This was a close event\u00a0all around, with the top 8 qualifiers all between 1:01.44 and 1:01.97. This could really be anybody’s race tonight.<\/p>\n

In a strange twist,\u00a0Yoshiki Yamanaka\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) and\u00a0Takatoshi Ikeshita\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) tied for 4th in 1:01.87 while\u00a0Hayato Watanbe\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) and\u00a0Kevin Cordes\u00a0<\/strong>(USA) tied for 7th in 1:01.97. The rest of the final will include\u00a0Yuuta Oshikiri\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) who qualified 3rd and\u00a0Kazuki Hayashi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) who was sixth.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Butterfly<\/h3>\n

American\u00a0Tom Shields\u00a0<\/strong>was the only man in the heats to break 53-seconds, leading all qualifiers in 52.64. Shields took it out about a half second faster than everyone else in the field but still brought it back with the fastest second 50 of all qualifiers.<\/p>\n

Sharing the middle lanes with\u00a0Shields\u00a0<\/strong>in finals\u00a0will be Austrailian Christopher Wright\u00a0<\/b>who was second\u00a0in 53.13 and\u00a0Yuuki Kobori\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) who qualified third\u00a0in 53.18. The rest of the top 8 includes\u00a0Zheng Wen Quah\u00a0<\/strong>(SIN),\u00a0Takeshi Kawamoto\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Masayuki Unemoto\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Nikolay Skvorstsov\u00a0<\/strong>(RUS), and\u00a0Masato Sakai\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Backstroke<\/h3>\n

Emily Seebohm\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to the top seed in the women’s 100 backstroke out of the final heat with a 1:00.88. Seebohm<\/strong> was the only qualifier to break 1:01. In second was her fellow Australian\u00a0Belinda Hocking\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:01.61. Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> qualified fourth in her second event of the session, posting a 1:01.87 from the fourth heat.<\/p>\n

The rest of the top 8 included\u00a0Miyuki Takemura\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Emi Moronuki\u00a0<\/strong>(JPN),\u00a0Masumi Takaba\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Miki Takahashi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), and\u00a0Yuka Kawayoke\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 Backstroke<\/h3>\n

American David Plummer\u00a0<\/strong>threw down the hammer in heat four of five, posting a blistering 24.62 to lead all qualifiers by roughly 8-tenths of a second. In second was fellow American phenom\u00a0Michael Andrew<\/strong>, who touched second in 25.47. Third was 100 backstroke champion from the first night of finals Australian\u00a0Mitch Larkin.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The rest of the top 8 qualifiers include\u00a0Junya Hasegawa\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), Josh Beaver\u00a0<\/b>(AUS),\u00a0Ash Delaney\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS),\u00a0Zheng Wen Quah\u00a0<\/strong>(SIN), and\u00a0Syunichi Nakao\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Butterfly<\/h3>\n

Natsumi Hoshi\u00a0<\/strong>will lead all qualifiers in the 200 butterfly with a 2:10.35.\u00a0She will be joined by ayana Miwa\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) and\u00a0Kona Jujita\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB)\u00a0in the middle of the pool during finals.<\/p>\n

The rest of the top 8 included\u00a0Haruno Itou\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Zsuzsanna Jakabos\u00a0<\/strong>(HUN),\u00a0Kate Mills\u00a0<\/strong>(USA),\u00a0Aine Matsushita\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), and\u00a0Caitlin Leverenz\u00a0<\/strong>(USA).<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 IM<\/h3>\n

Austrailian\u00a0Travis Mahoney\u00a0<\/strong>is the top seed for the men’s 200 IM, leading the way in 2:02.14. Just one-hundreth behind is\u00a0Hiromasa Fujimori\u00a0<\/strong>in 2:02.15, while\u00a0Ippei Watanabe\u00a0<\/strong>is close in third with a 2:02.22.<\/p>\n

The rest of the top eight includes\u00a0Takahiro Tutumi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Keita Sunama\u00a0<\/strong>(JPN),\u00a0Hiroya Yamada\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), Ryo Murakawa\u00a0<\/b>(CLB), and\u00a0Tomoya Takeuchi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 Freestyle<\/h3>\n

In her third even of this prelims sessions, Iron Lady\u00a0Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed the top spot heading into finals with a 4:13.06. She was a full second ahead of second and third place qualifiers\u00a0Chihiro Igarashi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) and\u00a0Aya Takano\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n

The rest of the top 8 will include\u00a0Wakaba Tsuyuuchi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Adami Chida\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Chen Yuxi\u00a0<\/strong>(CHN),\u00a0Leah Neale\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS), and\u00a0Yasuko Miyamoto\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 Freestyle<\/h3>\n

Shinri Shioura\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) claimed the top spot over Americans\u00a0Anthony Ervin\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Will Copeland\u00a0<\/strong>by just five one-hundreths.\u00a0Shioura\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 22.63, followed by\u00a0Ervin\u00a0<\/strong>in 22.68 and Copeland\u00a0<\/b>in 22.70.<\/p>\n

The rest of the field for the men’s splash and dash include\u00a0Katsumi Nakamura\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Blake Jones\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS),\u00a0Chun-Feng Wu\u00a0<\/strong>(TPE),\u00a0Daniel Hunter\u00a0<\/strong>(NZL), and\u00a0Jamie Sturgeon\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS).<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Breaststroke<\/h3>\n

Rie Kaneto\u00a0<\/strong>of Japan took the top seed for the women’s 200 breaststroke with a 2:25.09 from heat 4.\u00a0Kanako Watanabe\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed second seed just a second back in 2:26.00, while\u00a0Runa Imai\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 2:26.43.<\/p>\n

The rest of the top 8 include\u00a0Kierra Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(CAN),\u00a0Taylor Mckeown\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS),\u00a0Laura Sogar\u00a0<\/strong>(USA),\u00a0Sae Saitou\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), and\u00a0Reona Aoki\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 Backstroke<\/h3>\n

Last night’s 100 backstroke champ\u00a0Mitch Larkin\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS) claimed the top spot going into finals in the 200 back with a 1:59.47. He should be challenged by\u00a0Ryosuke Irie,\u00a0<\/strong>who is not far behind with his 1:59.89 from the heat prior. Expect these two to battle it out in the middle of the pool during finals.<\/p>\n

The rest of the top 8 is comprised of\u00a0Hayate Matsubara\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Zheng Wen Quah\u00a0<\/strong>(SIN),\u00a0Ashley Delaney\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS),\u00a0Kazuki Watanabe\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0Masaki Kaneko\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), and\u00a0Yuuma Edo\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 Butterfly<\/h3>\n

Mikie Uchida <\/strong>(CLB)\u00a0nabbed the top spot in the 50 fly over\u00a0Rikako Ikee\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) 26.85 vs. 26.92. The top two were the only two to clear 27.00 and should be the favorites heading into the finals session.<\/p>\n
