Right next to her was second qualifier American\u00a0<strong>Natalie Coughlin<\/strong>, who will also be in the middle lanes for the finals session after touching just behind in 55.33. Iron Lady <strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> was just one-hundreth behind in 55.34 to nab the third qualifying spot, setting the stage for what is sure to be a close race to kick off the finals session later on.<\/p>\n<p>Top rest of the top 8 will be <strong>Melanie<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Wright<\/strong> (AUS), <strong>Miki\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Uchida<\/strong> (CLB), <strong>Felicia<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Lee<\/strong> (USA), T<strong>omomi\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Aoki<\/strong> (CLB), and <strong>Misaki<\/strong> <strong>Yamagughi<\/strong> (CLB).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Freestyle<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Yuuki Kobori<\/strong> (CLB) will have the center lane in tonight&#8217;s final of the Men&#8217;s 200 Freestyle after posting the top time of 1:49.42. Right behind him with matching 1:49.80&#8217;s were American <strong>Zane Grothe<\/strong> and <strong>Nalto Ehara<\/strong> (CLB) from heat&#8217;s four and five, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0rest of the final will be made up of <strong>Reo\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Sakata<\/strong> (CLB), <strong>Ewan<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Jackson<\/strong> (NZL), <strong>Takeshi\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Matsuda<\/strong> (CLB), <strong>Naoya\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Tsuruga<\/strong> (CLB), and <strong>Alex<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Graham<\/strong> (AUS).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Breaststroke<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Alia Atkinson<\/strong> of Jamaica led all qualifiers from heat 3 of the women&#8217;s 50 breaststroke, touching in a swift 30.86. Right behind her was American <strong>Molly Hannis<\/strong> in 30.93. <strong>Hannis<\/strong> will surely be looking to channel the momentum from her close win the 100 breaststroke on the first night of finals.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the final will be comprised of\u00a0<strong>Jennie Johansson\u00a0<\/strong>(SWE),\u00a0<strong>Leiston Pickett\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS),\u00a0<strong>Satomi Suzuki\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Misaki Sekiguchi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Laura Sogar\u00a0<\/strong>(USA),\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Jessica Hansen\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Breaststroke<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Jake Packard\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS) put on a show in Heat 4 of the Men&#8217;s 100 Breaststroke, just out-touching\u00a0<strong>Cameron Van Der Burgh\u00a0<\/strong>(RSA) in the next lane 1:01.44 to 1:01.47. This was a close event\u00a0all around, with the top 8 qualifiers all between 1:01.44 and 1:01.97. This could really be anybody&#8217;s race tonight.<\/p>\n<p>In a strange twist,\u00a0<strong>Yoshiki Yamanaka\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) and\u00a0<strong>Takatoshi Ikeshita\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) tied for 4th in 1:01.87 while\u00a0<strong>Hayato Watanbe\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) and\u00a0<strong>Kevin Cordes\u00a0<\/strong>(USA) tied for 7th in 1:01.97. The rest of the final will include\u00a0<strong>Yuuta Oshikiri\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) who qualified 3rd and\u00a0<strong>Kazuki Hayashi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) who was sixth.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Butterfly<\/h3>\n<p>American\u00a0<strong>Tom Shields\u00a0<\/strong>was the only man in the heats to break 53-seconds, leading all qualifiers in 52.64. Shields took it out about a half second faster than everyone else in the field but still brought it back with the fastest second 50 of all qualifiers.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing the middle lanes with\u00a0<strong>Shields\u00a0<\/strong>in finals\u00a0will be Austrailian <b>Christopher Wright\u00a0<\/b>who was second\u00a0in 53.13 and\u00a0<strong>Yuuki Kobori\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) who qualified third\u00a0in 53.18. The rest of the top 8 includes\u00a0<strong>Zheng Wen Quah\u00a0<\/strong>(SIN),\u00a0<strong>Takeshi Kawamoto\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Masayuki Unemoto\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Nikolay Skvorstsov\u00a0<\/strong>(RUS), and\u00a0<strong>Masato Sakai\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Backstroke<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Emily Seebohm\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to the top seed in the women&#8217;s 100 backstroke out of the final heat with a 1:00.88. <strong>Seebohm<\/strong> was the only qualifier to break 1:01. In second was her fellow Australian\u00a0<strong>Belinda Hocking\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:01.61.<strong> Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> qualified fourth in her second event of the session, posting a 1:01.87 from the fourth heat.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the top 8 included\u00a0<strong>Miyuki Takemura\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Emi Moronuki\u00a0<\/strong>(JPN),\u00a0<strong>Masumi Takaba\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Miki Takahashi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), and\u00a0<strong>Yuka Kawayoke\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 Backstroke<\/h3>\n<p>American <strong>David Plummer\u00a0<\/strong>threw down the hammer in heat four of five, posting a blistering 24.62 to lead all qualifiers by roughly 8-tenths of a second. In second was fellow American phenom\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong>, who touched second in 25.47. Third was 100 backstroke champion from the first night of finals Australian\u00a0<strong>Mitch Larkin.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The rest of the top 8 qualifiers include\u00a0<strong>Junya Hasegawa\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), <b>Josh Beaver\u00a0<\/b>(AUS),\u00a0<strong>Ash Delaney\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS),\u00a0<strong>Zheng Wen Quah\u00a0<\/strong>(SIN), and\u00a0<strong>Syunichi Nakao\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Butterfly<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Natsumi Hoshi\u00a0<\/strong>will lead all qualifiers in the 200 butterfly with a 2:10.35.\u00a0She will be joined by <strong>ayana Miwa\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) and\u00a0<strong>Kona Jujita\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB)\u00a0in the middle of the pool during finals.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the top 8 included\u00a0<strong>Haruno Itou\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos\u00a0<\/strong>(HUN),\u00a0<strong>Kate Mills\u00a0<\/strong>(USA),\u00a0<strong>Aine Matsushita\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), and\u00a0<strong>Caitlin Leverenz\u00a0<\/strong>(USA).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>Austrailian\u00a0<strong>Travis Mahoney\u00a0<\/strong>is the top seed for the men&#8217;s 200 IM, leading the way in 2:02.14. Just one-hundreth behind is\u00a0<strong>Hiromasa Fujimori\u00a0<\/strong>in 2:02.15, while\u00a0<strong>Ippei Watanabe\u00a0<\/strong>is close in third with a 2:02.22.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the top eight includes\u00a0<strong>Takahiro Tutumi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Keita Sunama\u00a0<\/strong>(JPN),\u00a0<strong>Hiroya Yamada\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), <b>Ryo Murakawa\u00a0<\/b>(CLB), and\u00a0<strong>Tomoya Takeuchi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 400 Freestyle<\/h3>\n<p>In her third even of this prelims sessions, Iron Lady\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed the top spot heading into finals with a 4:13.06. She was a full second ahead of second and third place qualifiers\u00a0<strong>Chihiro Igarashi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) and\u00a0<strong>Aya Takano\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the top 8 will include\u00a0<strong>Wakaba Tsuyuuchi\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Adami Chida\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Chen Yuxi\u00a0<\/strong>(CHN),\u00a0<strong>Leah Neale\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS), and\u00a0<strong>Yasuko Miyamoto\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 Freestyle<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Shinri Shioura\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) claimed the top spot over Americans\u00a0<strong>Anthony Ervin\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Will Copeland\u00a0<\/strong>by just five one-hundreths.\u00a0<strong>Shioura\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 22.63, followed by\u00a0<strong>Ervin\u00a0<\/strong>in 22.68 and <b>Copeland\u00a0<\/b>in 22.70.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the field for the men&#8217;s splash and dash include\u00a0<strong>Katsumi Nakamura\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Blake Jones\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS),\u00a0<strong>Chun-Feng Wu\u00a0<\/strong>(TPE),\u00a0<strong>Daniel Hunter\u00a0<\/strong>(NZL), and\u00a0<strong>Jamie Sturgeon\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Breaststroke<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Rie Kaneto\u00a0<\/strong>of Japan took the top seed for the women&#8217;s 200 breaststroke with a 2:25.09 from heat 4.\u00a0<strong>Kanako Watanabe\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed second seed just a second back in 2:26.00, while\u00a0<strong>Runa Imai\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 2:26.43.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the top 8 include\u00a0<strong>Kierra Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(CAN),\u00a0<strong>Taylor Mckeown\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS),\u00a0<strong>Laura Sogar\u00a0<\/strong>(USA),\u00a0<strong>Sae Saitou\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), and\u00a0<strong>Reona Aoki\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Backstroke<\/h3>\n<p>Last night&#8217;s 100 backstroke champ\u00a0<strong>Mitch Larkin\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS) claimed the top spot going into finals in the 200 back with a 1:59.47. He should be challenged by\u00a0<strong>Ryosuke Irie,\u00a0<\/strong>who is not far behind with his 1:59.89 from the heat prior. Expect these two to battle it out in the middle of the pool during finals.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the top 8 is comprised of\u00a0<strong>Hayate Matsubara\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Zheng Wen Quah\u00a0<\/strong>(SIN),\u00a0<strong>Ashley Delaney\u00a0<\/strong>(AUS),\u00a0<strong>Kazuki Watanabe\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB),\u00a0<strong>Masaki Kaneko\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB), and\u00a0<strong>Yuuma Edo\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Butterfly<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Mikie Uchida <\/strong>(CLB)\u00a0nabbed the top spot in the 50 fly over\u00a0<strong>Rikako Ikee\u00a0<\/strong>(CLB) 26.85 vs. 26.92.
