CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts, October 19. THE Boston College men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2007-08 home schedule by sweeping the Brandeis Judges, Wednesday evening in a non-conference meet.<\/p>\n
The men (1-0, 0-0 ACC) posted a 149-109 decision, while the women (2-0, 0-0 ACC) tallied a 140-121 win.<\/p>\n
On the men's team, senior Alex Zucco and freshman John Maloy each won two events. Zucco played first in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions and placed third in the 100 backstroke, totaling 21 points. Maloy placed first in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. The two victories for Maloy were the first of his collegiate career.<\/p>\n
Four other BC freshmen won their first collegiate events against the Judges. Michael Hughes, Alex Spaeth, David Ely and Andrew Brown were each earned top honors in one event for the Eagles. Hughes placed first in the 1000 freestyle (10:27.87). Spaeth earned a victory in the 200 Individual Medley (2:03.99). Ely earned medalist honors in the 200 backstroke (2:09.6) and placed second in the 50 freestyle (23.83), totaling 13 points. Brown won the 500 freestyle (5:11.14) for the Eagles.<\/p>\n
BC upperclassman Mark Green, Tommy Chandler and Jason Hazzard each earned victories during the meet. Green won the 100 backstroke (58.71), Chandler won the 100 freestyle (49.82) and Hazzard won the 50 freestyle (23.69) each earning nine points.<\/p>\n
On the women's side, the Eagles were led by Devon Kelly. The freshman won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, totaling 18 points.<\/p>\n
The Eagles won nine other individual swimming events by nine different swimmers. Seniors Tanya Suryoutomo (100 butterfly), Mari Wunschel (50 freestyle) and Elizabeth Snyder (200 Individual Medley) each earned victories.<\/p>\n
Courtney Smith (100 backstroke), Caroline Byron (1000 freestyle), Jenna DiNovis (200 freestyle), Alina DeKay (100 freestyle), Ashley Leprine (200 backstroke), Caitlin Doherty (500 freestyle) and Jessie Couper (200 breaststroke) all earned top honors.<\/p>\n
