The women of UCLA, UC-Santa Barbara, and Oregon State gathered in Los Angeles on Saturday for a Tri-meet. UCLA claimed wins over both UC-Santa Barbara and Oregon State, while UC-Santa Barbara split the meet with a win over Oregon State in addition to their loss.<\/p>\n

UCLA Press Release:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The UCLA swim team came out on top at the three-way duel meet against UCSB and Oregon State on Saturday afternoon. \u00a0Wearing pink caps in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, the Bruins beat the Gauchos 132-113, while dominating the Beavers 175-82.<\/p>\n

Both\u00a0Madison White\u00a0and\u00a0Caroline McTaggart\u00a0posted double wins at the event. \u00a0White, a UCLA junior, swam the top mark in the 200 Fly (2:01.48) and the 200 Back (1:58.95). \u00a0Bruin newcomer McTaggart won the 100 Free (50.97) and the 200 Free (1:49.93).<\/p>\n

UCLA swept the 200 Free, as\u00a0Linnea Mack\u00a0and\u00a0Michaela Merlihan\u00a0finished second and third, respectively, behind their freshman teammate. \u00a0Mack posted the top mark in the 100 Fly, swimming a 56.00.<\/p>\n

UCLA’s freshman made a solid showing at the tri-meet as well. \u00a0Sandra Soe\u00a0finished first in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:09.17, while\u00a0Emma Schanz\u00a0posted a 2:05.16 to finish first in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n

Next up, the Bruins head to the desert to take on Arizona and Arizona State. \u00a0UCLA will swim against the Wildcats in Tucson on Friday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. PT. \u00a0On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Bruins will hit the pool in Tempe at 11 a.m. PT to take on the Sun Devils.<\/p>\n

UC-Santa Barbara Press Release:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The UC Santa Barbara women’s swimming team had their season debut today in a three-way duel meet against the women of UCLA and Oregon State. UCSB beat Oregon State handedly, 180-76, but fell short against UCLA, 132-113.<\/p>\n

The Gaucho women tallied six total wins for the day, including a win for both relays. Several women also made their UCSB swimming debuts today, including junior transfer\u00a0Cheyenne Low\u00a0who contributed two relay wins and one individual event victory.<\/p>\n

UCSB’s “A” medley relay, consisting of Cheyenne Low (26.30),\u00a0Katie Records(29.24),\u00a0Kelsey Leonard\u00a0(25.42), and\u00a0Lauren Vosseler\u00a0(23.06) sealed the first Gaucho win of the day in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.02. UCSB’s “B” relay took third in the event.<\/p>\n

Cheyenne Low earned her second win of the day in the 100 backstroke, blowing the rest of the heat out of the water with a 55.85.\u00a0Julia Mikota\u00a0(57.13) took third.<\/p>\n

The Gaucho breaststrokers stacked up several points with a one-two-three finish in the 100 breaststroke. Katie Records (1:03.82) led the pack, followed by\u00a0Charis Hoppe\u00a0(1:04.95) and\u00a0Jiana Vargem\u00a0(1:05.95).<\/p>\n

Lauren Vosseler (23.46) took home a win in the 50 freestyle, blazing ahead of the rest of her heat by over half a second.<\/p>\n

Katie Records (2:18.01) sealed a win in her second event of the day, the 200 breaststroke.\u00a0Alyssa Shew\u00a0(2:21.54) took third in the event.<\/p>\n

Records placed second in the final individual event of the meet with a 2:07.42 in her 200 IM swim.<\/p>\n

The Gaucho women concluded a solid meet performance with a one-two finish in the 400 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n

Catch the men and women’s swimming teams in their next duel meet against Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo on Saturday, Oct. 31 at noon.<\/p>\n

Oregon State Press Release:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Senior Sammy Harrison stayed undefeated in the 500-yard freestyle for the 2015-16 season with a win in the event against UCLA and UC-Santa Barbara on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Harrison clocked a time of 4:58.66 to edge out UCLA\u2019s Sandra Soe (4:59.15) en route to a victory in the 500-yard freestyle. Saturday\u2019s win marked the Henderson, Nev. native\u2019s fifth win in the event this season and ninth individual victory overall.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Noemie Midrez also placed in the top-five in the 500 free, touching the wall in 5:21.18.<\/p>\n

Harrison opened the meet with the 1,000-yard freestyle, placing second with a time of 10:17.71. The senior freestyler had won the 1,000 in the four previous meets this season before Saturday\u2019s second-place finish.<\/p>\n

Final dual scores were 175-82 in favor of the Bruins, and 180-76 in favor of the Gauchos.<\/p>\n

Junior Brooke Meyer was the Beavers\u2019 next-highest finisher, placing third in the 100-yard fly with a time of 58.62. Freshman Megan Lam followed her in the event in fourth (58.92), while junior Jesikah Cavanaugh and senior Constance Toulemonde tied for fifth (59.68).<\/p>\n

Oregon State also recorded a third-place finish in the 400-yard free relay, as the foursome of Toulemonde, junior Andrea Young, junior Anni Hecker and Harrison finished in 3:35.93.<\/p>\n

Junior Czsarina Isleta recorded a trio of fourth-place finishes, clocking times of 1:06.02 in the 100-yard breaststroke, 2:22.57 in the 200-yard breaststroke and 2:11.65 in the 200-yard individual medley.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the Beavers\u2019 top performers were sophomore Corrine Shigeta, who clocked a time of 2:13.28 in the 200 IM to place fifth, as well as senior Amani Amr, who registered a time of 2:04.65 to finish in fifth in the 200-yard backstroke.<\/p>\n

Following this weekend\u2019s action, the Oregon State swimming team will take a week off before returning to action against Pacific and Fresno State on Saturday, Nov. 7. The meet from Stockton, Calif. is set to begin at 11 a.m. PT.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
