The dual meet marked the first win of the season for the Cougars who now move to a record of 1-2. The Sun Devils move to a record of 1-1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Washington State Press Release:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No. 30 Washington State claimed five races and posted a 115-90 Pac-12 Conference victory over Arizona State University Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The Cougars recorded their second straight win over the Sun Devils after notching a 155.5-106.5 win in Pullman last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTonight was a great team win for us,\u201d Washington State Head Coach\u00a0Tom Jager\u00a0said. \u201cI am so proud for our seniors and the foundation they have laid for a great team. Our entire team showed up and raced today that\u2019s how you win meets on the road. This Cougar team is tough and I am very proud of them. Every class contributed for us tonight and that\u2019s a sign of a great team!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Washington State opened the meet claiming two of the top three spots in the 200 medley relay with the team of Hayler Rose Love,\u00a0Frederikke Hall,\u00a0Anna Brolin\u00a0and\u00a0Hannah Bruggman\u00a0finishing second with a season-best time of 1:43.86. Junior\u00a0Kendra Griffin\u00a0notched the Cougars first of the night in the 1000 Freestyle with a season-best 10:15.15, the seventh-fastest mark in WSU history.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200 Freestyle, freshman\u00a0Rachel Thompson\u00a0picked up four more points for WSU finishing second and junior\u00a0Elise Locke\u00a0added three points with a third-place finish. The Cougars placed in two of the top three spots of the 50 Freestyle as sophomore\u00a0Hannah Bruggman\u00a0and junior Hayley Rose Love each notched season-best times to finished second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The Cougars started to heat up in the fifth event, taking the top three spots of the 200 Medley led by junior\u00a0Addisynn Bursch\u2019s win with a time of 2:02.75, the sixth-best mark in school history. Senior\u00a0Presley Wetterstrom\u00a0finished second with a season-best 2:06.25 and senior\u00a0Loree Olson\u00a0placed third with a 2:06.85.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200 Butterfly, WSU again claimed the top three finishers as junior\u00a0Elise Locke\u00a0earned the win with a season-best 2:01.30, good for the fifth-fastest time in school history. Griffin earned a second-place finish and sophomore\u00a0Anna Brolin\u00a0came in third for the Cougars. WSU continued to rack up the points as Bursch and Bruggman finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 Freestyle with season-best marks.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman\u00a0Jasmine Margetts\u00a0continued her impressive start to her collegiate career by winning the 200 Backstroke and posting the third-best time in school history, 1:59.21, and two tenths of a second off of the NCAA \u201cB\u201d standard qualifying mark. The Cougars also received a second-place finish from Olson who posted the eighth-fastest time school history at 2:00.07 and a third-place time from sophomore\u00a0Talisa Wibmer\u00a0with a season-best 2:09.08.<\/p>\n<p>In the 500 Freestyle, Thompson earned a second-place finish before the Cougars picked up another win as Wetterstrom claimed the 200 Breastroke with a 2:16.58, the eighth-best time in WSU history. Hall finished close behind Wetterstrom to earn another four points and a second-place finish.<\/p>\n<p>The Cougars closed the night placing second and third in the 800 Freestyle Relay with the team of Bursch, Margetts, Locke and Thompson posting a season-best time of 7:27.42, just three tenths of second behind the Sun Devils.<\/p>\n<p>Washington State will stay on the road and face the University of Arizona and UNLV in Tucson, Friday at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arizona State Press Release:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Arizona State women&#8217;s swim team encountered their first loss of the season, as Washington State earned their first win of the year at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center on Thursday, Oct. 22.<\/p>\n<p>Despite winning three of the first four events, the Sun Devils couldn&#8217;t make up the points down the stretch and fell 115-90 to the Cougars.<\/p>\n<p>ASU started off hot, as junior Ingibjord Jonsdottir, freshman Kaya Philapil, senior Marina Spadoni and junior Alysha Bush brought home the first victory of the meet in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:42.72. Washington State would pick up six points with second and third place.<\/p>\n<p>Two races later, junior Katarina Simonovic earned another nine points for the Sun Devils with a time of 1:50.61 in the 200-yard freestyle. Senior Jamie Friderichs earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:53.37 for another two points.<\/p>\n<p>In the next race, Bush was back at it after anchoring the 200-yard medley relay, as she nearly made the NCAA &#8220;B&#8221; Standard time with a finish of 23.19 &#8212; .20 off the standard.<\/p>\n<p>Just before the first break in the meet, Washington State picked up a crucial 16 points with the top-three finishes in the 200-yard individual medley. That turned the tide, washing away the Devils 13-point lead into a three-point deficit.<\/p>\n<p>The Cougars returned from break to take the top-three times in the 200-yard freestyle as well to go up 19 points, and they never looked back.<\/p>\n<p>Bush picked up her second victory of the evening in the 100-yard freestyle &#8212; once again nearly hitting the &#8220;B&#8221; Standard qualifying time &#8212; with a time of 50.11.<\/p>\n<p>Friderichs also picked up her first win of the season in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:59.06.<\/p>\n<p>The Sun Devil women will have a chance at redemption this Saturday, Oct. 24 as they join the men&#8217;s team against UNLV at 11 a.m. at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The women of Washington State bested the Arizona State women in a dual meet Thursday night, 115-90.
