CHIAPAS, Mexico, October 15. OVER the weekend, Bulgarian Petar Stoychev secured his seventh consecutive title in the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix series when he placed third in the final 15K stop held in Chiapas, Mexico. Meanwhile, Spain's Esther Nunez Morera won her first overall title in the series after finishing second overall in Chiapas.<\/p>\n

Stoychev has won each of the overall titles in the series since 2001, and this year was no different as he claimed five of the eight races offered this year.<\/p>\n

France's Loic Branda won the men's race in Chiapas in 3:16:12, while Mexico's Ivan Lopez placed second in 3:16:13 and Stoychev took third in 3:16:24. For the women, France's Cathy Dietrich won in 3:26:38, while Morera placed second in 3:26:39 and France's Aurelie Muller took third in 3:26:50.<\/p>\n

Overall, Stoychev won the series with 118 points, while Argentina's Damian Blaum finished second with 90 points and Bulgaria's Tihomir Ivanchev took third with 67 points. Morera walked away with the women's title with 122 points, while Argentina's Celeste Punet took second with 78 points and the United States' Erica Rose finished third with 64 points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
