Denver Press Release:<\/strong><\/p>\nThe University of Denver women\u2019s swim team defeated Colorado State University on Friday in Fort Collins, Colo. after totaling 189 points over CSU\u2019s 111 points.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have always been challenged to win on the road at Colorado State, so I\u2019m glad to start on the road with a win,\u201d head coach\u00a0Brian Shrader\u00a0said. \u201cWe had a lot of good swims today but I would have to say\u00a0Amanda Sanders,\u00a0Morgan McCormick,\u00a0Johanna Roas, and\u00a0Zoe Huddleston\u00a0all had multiple wins and helped set our team up for a strong win.\u201d<\/p>\n
Roas won the 200 yard freestyle event (1:54.21) and the 50 yard fly (26.09), while Sanders won the 50 yard breaststroke (30.29) and the 200 yard breast (2:18.82). McCormick placed first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:00.65) and the 100 yard IM (58.51). Huddleston finished first in the 50 yard free (24.08) and 100 yard free (52.86).<\/p>\n
McCormick, Sanders, Roas and\u00a0Heidi Bradley\u00a0teamed up to win the 400 yard medley relay (3:48.97), while Roas, Huddleston,\u00a0Lauren Moden\u00a0and Morgan Wice-Roslin placed first in the 200 yard free relay (1:35.35). Freshman\u00a0Karly Haraden\u00a0also picked up her first win with the program after finishing in first place in the 1000 yard freestyle event (10:34.71).<\/p>\n
The women will host the University of Nebraska-Omaha tomorrow at noon at El Pomar.<\/p>\n
Wyoming Press Release:<\/strong><\/p>\nThe University of Wyoming Cowboy swimming and diving team battled the Denver Pioneers in its first dual of the season, which ended on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The Cowboys won six of the 15 events at the Laramie Recreation Center, including the 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, 1-meter diving, 500 freestyle, 3-meter diving and 200 breaststroke. A number of swimmers contributed to the victory, but\u00a0Gabe Rooker\u00a0and\u00a0Bryce Carter\u00a0stood out, winning the 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle, respectively.<\/p>\n
\u201cI felt we swam better as the meet went on this afternoon,\u201d UW head coach TJ Johnson said. \u201cThe best events for us today were the last events. We were able to hang with their 400 relay, but with freshmen and sophomores, it\u2019s a learning experience. We will work on some technical stuff during practice and continue to get better every day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rooker claimed the top time in the 50 breaststroke with a final mark of 25.90, while Carter swam the 50 freestyle with a 21.10. Sophomore\u00a0Ryan Ball\u00a0had an impressive meet for UW as well, winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:42.62.\u00a0Liam Holt\u00a0and\u00a0Wade Nelson\u00a0went one-two for the Pokes in the 200 breaststroke. Holt finished with a time of 2:08.32, as Nelson finished close behind with a time of 2:08.34.<\/p>\n
The Cowboy divers also did their part in helping UW on Friday evening.\u00a0Ryan Russi\u00a0took home the title in the 3-meter event, while\u00a0Austin Rettinghouse\u00a0won the 1-meter. Russi won with a score of 335.93 and Rettinghouse earned a 316.95 on the 1-meter. Russi also finished second on the 1-meter event, while Rettinghouse claimed second place on the 3-meter.\u00a0Jacob Rehmeier\u00a0took third in both the 1 and 3-meter events for the Pokes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWade Nelson had a great day. Kyle Scalise raced hard for us, really no different than he ever does,\u201d Johnson added. Bryce Carter had an unbelievable meet as well. The divers did great also, they took all three top spots in both boards and helped our team tremendously today.\u201d<\/p>\n
Senior\u00a0Kyle Scales\u00a0finished second behind Rooker in the 50 breaststroke and\u00a0Sam Loescher\u00a0claimed second in the 50 free behind Carter. Rooker took home the third place finish in the 50 freestyle and\u00a0Eric Oleson\u00a0took second in the 1,000 freestyle.\u00a0Wade Nelson\u00a0also claimed second in the 50 butterfly, while\u00a0Slade Sheaffer\u00a0finished second in the 200 freestyle with a final mark of 1:42.14.<\/p>\n
