The Army West Point men continued their perfect streak Friday night with a win over UMass in their home pool. The Black Knights topped the Minutemen 187-120 on the men’s side.<\/p>\n

The Army West Point men’s swimming and diving team downed UMass in its home opener at Crandall Pool Friday night 187-120.<\/p>\n

The Black Knights remain a perfect 3-0 after tonight’s win. Army dominated after recording the top time in every swim event.<\/p>\n

The meet featured a new event for both sides in the 100 IM. The Cadets set a pool and Academy record.\u00a0Austin Kong<\/dfn>\u00a0captured both records with a standard of 51.89.<\/p>\n

Army came out strong in the first event of the night with first and second place finishes. The “A” team of Josh\u00a0Sembrano<\/dfn>,\u00a0Colin Kanzari<\/dfn>, Kong and\u00a0Chris Szekely<\/dfn>\u00a0touched the wall first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:31.92. Army’s “B” team comprised of\u00a0Evin Rude<\/dfn>,\u00a0Sam Mo<\/dfn>,\u00a0Jason Rodriguez<\/dfn>\u00a0and\u00a0Brandon McCredie\u00a0followed closely behind with a time of 1:34.72.<\/p>\n

In the 1000 free, the Black Knights also went one-two with\u00a0Clay Harmon<\/dfn>\u00a0first to the wall in 9:43.75 then\u00a0Tom Ottman<\/dfn>\u00a0who recorded a time of 9:49.36.<\/p>\n

Army earned the top three spots in the 100 IM and 200 free. Kong led the way in the 100 IM over\u00a0Sam Mo<\/dfn>\u00a0(51.94) and Dan Mo (53.15), while Rude (1:41.94),\u00a0Devin McCall<\/dfn>\u00a0(1:42.88) and\u00a0Adam Sjoholm<\/dfn>\u00a0(1:44.59) went first through third in the 200 free.<\/p>\n

Sembrano clocked a first-place time of 50.48 in the in the 100 back. In the 100 breast, the Black Knights placed first through third.\u00a0Colin Kanzari<\/dfn>\u00a0touched the wall first in 58.32 and was followed by Kong (59.24) and\u00a0Pat Wall\u00a0<\/dfn>(1:00.12).<\/p>\n

Army swept the top-four spots in the 200 fly.\u00a0Jay Yang<\/dfn>\u00a0recorded a first place time of 1:51.60, and\u00a0Jason Rodriguez\u00a0<\/dfn>(1:54.30), Zach Blankenbecker (1:54.50) and\u00a0Sean Regan<\/dfn>\u00a0(1:55.76) followed closely behind.<\/p>\n

Szekely touched the wall first in the 50 free with a time of 20.68 and the 100 free in 44.59. Yang won the 200 back after clocking a 1:49.60 and was followed by Sembrano who had a time of 1:50.54.<\/p>\n

In the diving portion,\u00a0Joe Frullaney<\/dfn>\u00a0and\u00a0Edward Emery<\/dfn>\u00a0placed fourth and fifth on the 1-meter with 135.75 points and 131.18, respectively. Emery also competed for the Black Knights off the 3-meter at earned 163.20 points.<\/p>\n

The Black Knights next face Columbia on Nov. 6 in New York, N.Y.<\/p>\n

Army picked up 10 event wins on the women’s side and nine on the men’s side as the Black Knights swept the UMass swimming and diving teams on Friday night at Crandall Pool at the United States Military Academy.<\/p>\n

Both UMass swimming and diving programs will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Boston University for a 1 p.m., dual meet with the Terriers.<\/p>\n

For the Minutewomen (0-1),\u00a0Jocelyn Yuen\u00a0led the swimmers with a pair of second place finishes in the 100 individual medley (1:00.31) and in the 200 fly (2:08.96).\u00a0Steph Campo\u00a0also posted a second place finish in the 1,000 free with a time of 10 minutes, 33.40 seconds.<\/p>\n

On the boards,\u00a0Emma Roush\u00a0once again swept the 1-meter and 3-meter events with first place finishes on both.\u00a0Julia\u00a0J<\/a>agannath\u00a0took second on the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter flip-flopping finishes with\u00a0Katie Polk\u00a0in the events.<\/p>\n

The men were led in the pool by\u00a0Owen Wright\u00a0who placed second in both the 50 free and 100 free events and fourth in the 100 individual medley (53.52 seconds). Wright swam 20.94 seconds in the 50 free – just 0.26 seconds behind Army’s winner Chris Szekely. In the 100 free, Wright tied for second as he and Army’s Brandon McCredie each touched the wall at 46.81 seconds.<\/p>\n

Oliver Wyeth\u00a0took second int he 100 back (51.83 seconds), while\u00a0Kyle Vieria\u00a0placed third in the 1,000 free (9:57.30) out-touching teammate\u00a0Alessandro Bomprezzi\u00a0by just 0.02 seconds.<\/p>\n

On the boards for the men,\u00a0Trent Kindvall\u00a0placed first in the 1-meter event, while\u00a0Nolan Burns\u00a0won the 3-meter event. Kindvall placed second on the 3-meter board, while Burns took second in the 1-meter dive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
