Noah Stevens<\/strong> had a few Ivy League schools on his list of potential universities to attend next fall, but Duke University\u2019s academic prowess and strong swim team was more attractive to the New York State native, and he\u2019ll become a Blue Devil next fall.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring a long, long process that started last year with contacting schools, they (Duke) were quick to respond,\u201d Stevens told Swimming World. \u201cThat really stuck with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stevens said he wanted the right balance of academics and athletics at his university of choice, and while the Ivy League schools certainly offered that, Duke\u2019s overall environment was too hard for Stevens to overlook.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, I have to train hard (in this next year) and make sure I\u2019m the right fit for them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Stevens will have a big reason to be at his best when he arrives in Durham next fall. He\u2019ll be training alongside breaststroker Peter Kropp<\/strong>, who recently made a statement with a fast 100 breast in Duke\u2019s first dual meet of the season. But Stevens is also a butterfly specialist, so he\u2019ll be spending training time among various groups.<\/p>\n

Stevens holds short course yards best times of 55.93 in the 100 breast and 48.98 in the 100 butterfly. Both times were achieved at last February\u2019s New York high school championships, where he won the 100 fly and was second in the 100 breast while representing Brighton High School. He also boasts a 2:11.20 lifetime best in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n

Stevens swam for Victor Swim Club at last summer\u2019s junior nationals, where he recorded lifetime bests of 1:05.48 in the 100 breast and 57.56 in the 100 fly. He also swam a 200 breast time trial and lowered his best time to 2:24.33.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
