Today marks the third\u00a0episode\u00a0of Spindrift Beck\u2019s<\/strong> podcast entitled Swimcerely With Spindrift<\/a>. In this third\u00a0edition, Beck talks with NCAA champion\u00a0Cindy Tran<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Tran is part of a long line of epic backstrokers who swam at the University of California that includes Natalie Coughlin<\/strong>, Missy Franklin<\/strong>, Rachel Bootsma<\/strong> and Elizabeth Pelton<\/strong>. \u00a0In 2011 and 2012, she topped the NCAA Championships in the 100-yard backstroke to claim a pair of NCAA titles. \u00a0She also went on to represent the USA at the 2013 World University Games in 2013 and won a bronze medal as part of the women’s 400-meter medley relay.<\/p>\n

Tran is best known for her unreal underwater swimming ability, first learned under the tutelage of Bob Gillett<\/strong> at the Golden West Swim Club, which makes sense as Gillett initially turned underwater swimming on its head with a previous high school star named Misty Hyman<\/strong>. Tran made huge news in the swimming community in high school as she used her strong underwater skills to break Coughlin’s 1998 national high school record in the 100-yard back with a 51.86 at the CIF-SS Division I Championships. A few years later, future Golden Bear teammate Bootsma would take down that mark with a 51.53.<\/p>\n

Swimcerely with Spindrift<\/strong> is a podcast that showcases conversations with high school, collegiate, pro, and Olympic swimmers\u2019 about their likes, dislikes, career, goals, and more. Each episode centers on a different swimmer, giving a behind-the-scenes look at what makes these athletes tick and, in some cases, what separates them as some of the best swimmers in the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy favorite podcasts are ones that feature actors, writers, and comedians speaking not just about their craft but about their favorite restaurants, TV shows, telling funny stories, etc. With 2016 fast approaching, I wanted to try to bring that sort of format to swimming, so that fans can have a new type of unfiltered access to their favorite swimmers.
