Team UPS, coming off of a three-game set with Canada over the weekend, started off well enough against Croatia, but was unable to hold on to its
\nearly lead and lost, 7-3. A sluggish fourth quarter spelled the end for UPS as Croatia powered out to four unanswered goals.<\/p>\n
UPS went up early in the first quarter, courtesy of a goal by Omar Amr from a meter out. Croatia's Mario Oreb tied things up a minute later with an
\nextra-man goal, his only score of the day. Croatia then took the lead in the second quarter on a goal by Teo Dogas, one of his two in the game. UPS's Jeff
\nPowers evened the score at 2-2 before the half. <\/p>\n
Both teams exchanged goals again in the third period, making it 3-3 to start the fourth. However, the Croatian offensive stepped into high gear,
\nbreaking away for a 4-0 run, which accounted for the final margin. Team UPS was 0 for 3 on the day on man-advantage opportunities.<\/p>\n
Team UPS's Chris Aguilera led all goalkeepers with 12 saves.<\/p>\n

Yugoslavia outscored Italy 9-3 in the first quarter, steamrolling that lead into a 14-8 win in day-one action at the UPS Cup. Yugoslavia managed to
\nconvert on all six man-advantage opportunities en route to the victory.<\/p>\n
Three unanswered goals to start the match set the tone for a game in which seven different players broke into the score column for Yugoslavia. <\/p>\n
Aleksandar Sapic led the way with five goals, two of those coming on 6-on-5 attacks, while teammate Veljko Uskokovic scored three. The Italians got a trio of goals from Leonardo Sottani. Yugoslavian goalkeeper Aleksandar Sostar stopped 11 shots on goal, while his Italian counterpart Francesco Attolico collected six saves.<\/p>\n

Team USA gave a near-capacity crowd their money's worth in its tournament opener against Australia Tuesday in the UPS Cup. Trailing 7-4 heading into
\nthe final period, the U.S. fought back to earn a 7-7 tie with a talented Australian team. <\/p>\n
Early on the U.S. trailed, 2-0. But a pair of goals by Tony Azevedo and one by Wolf Wigo gave Team USA the lead at 3-2 in the second quarter. Daniel
\nMarsden's second goal in the waning minutes of the half, however, gave the Australians a 4-3 lead at the break. <\/p>\n
The Aussies then went on to outscore the U.S. 3-1 in the third, picking up goals from Marsden, Rod Owen-Jones, and Whalan Thomas in the process. <\/p>\n
Trailing 7-4 in the fourth, the U.S. defense stepped up to limit Australian shot selection, creating good opportunities in transition. Team
\nUSA capitalized with goals by Wolf Wigo and Chi Kredell to come to within one at 7-6, and Robert Lynn, who had caused a two-minute game delay earlier,
\nscored with 3:25 left to tie it at 7-7. Both teams had shots on goal in the final minute, but neither possession resulted in a score.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
