The Wolverines also set eight pool records.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senior <\/span><b>Anders Nielsen <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and sophomore <\/span><b>PJ Ransford<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, both of whom were NCAA runner-ups last season, didn&#8217;t show signs of any rust to help Michigan completely sweep the freestyles. The Wolverines went 1-2-3-4 in the 100-, 200 and 400-meter freestyles, including wins by Nielsen in the 100-meter freestyle (52.87) and 200-meter freestyle (1:54.66). Ransford won the 800-meter freestyle (8:26.75) and took second in the 400-meter freestyle (4:10.00).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sophomore <\/span><b>Ian Rainey <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had a breakout season debut, winning the 200-meter butterfly (2:07.98) ahead of teammate and 2014 NCAA champion <\/span><b>Dylan Bosch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2:08.33). He also won the 400-meter freestyle (4:05.43) by nearly four-and-a-half seconds. Another sophomore, <\/span><b>Tristan Sanders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clipped the one-minute mark in the 100-meter backstroke (59.33) and won by more than five seconds in the 200 back (2:07.72). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other individual event winners included junior <\/span><b>Vinny Tafuto <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 100-meter butterfly (57.69) and sophomore <\/span><b>Evan White <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 200-meter IM (2:10.00).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only events Michigan didn&#8217;t win were in the breaststroke. White was second in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:06.86) and junior <\/span><b>Chris Klein <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was second in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:27.26).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wolverines also won both relays on the afternoon, going 3:56.92 in the 400-meter medley relay (Sanders, Klein, Bosch, <\/span><b>Paul Powers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and 3:33.19 in the 400-meter freestyle relay (Tafuto, Nielsen, <\/span><b>Jack Mangan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Powers). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Up next for Michigan is its annual alumni\/intrasquad meet, held next Saturday (Oct. 10) at Canham Natatorium prior to football&#8217;s Homecoming game vs. Northwestern. The meet will begin at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coinciding with the Weekend of Champions, various members of the 1994-95 men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s swimming and diving teams are expected to be in attendance. The 200-meter backstroke was strong, in particular, as U-M went 1-2-3, with Smiddy touching the wall more than five seconds ahead of teammate <\/span><b>Gabby DeLoof<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who was second.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A pair of senior captains also had strong swims. <\/span><b>Marni Oldershaw <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">collected wins in the 200-meter butterfly (2:22.77) and 200-meter IM (2:23.01), while <\/span><b>Ali DeLoof <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was second in the 100-meter freestyle (58.94) and 100-meter backstroke (1:05.99). Newcomer <\/span><b>Siobh\u00e1n Haughey <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was impressive in her collegiate debut, winning the 100-meter freestyle (57.92) ahead of A. DeLoof.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Freshman <\/span><b>Becca Postoll <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the team&#8217;s highest finisher in the 200-meter freestyle, taking second (2:07.67), while senior <\/span><b>Zoe Mattingly <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also had a runner-up finish in the 100-meter butterfly (1:05.67).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wolverines also won both relays to bookend the meet, going 4:19.94 in the 400-meter medley relay (Smiddy, Kopas, Mattingly, A.
