In the gold-medal contest, Hungary claimed a hard-fought, 9-6, victory over Italy with a balanced attack led by Denes Varga's hat trick. Meanwhile, Niccolo Figari shouldered most of the load for the Italians with four goals.<\/p>\n
In the bronze-medal match, Croatia upended Serbia, 12-8. Meanwhile, Australia thumped the United States, 14-4, for fifth-place honors as Nicholas O'Halloran connected four times in the dominant victory. In the seventh\/eighth-place contest, Spain overpowered Germany, 12-4, with Oscar Aguilar and Gonzalo Lopez-Escribano leading the way with three tallies each.<\/p>\n
Greece edged France, 9-8, for ninth place as the Greeks rode the shoulders of Andreas Miralis, who tickled the twine five times to lead all-scorers in the match. In the 11th\/12th tilt, Japan knocked off Slovakia in a high-scoring affair, 17-10. Akira Yanase paced Japan's offense with five goals.<\/p>\n
In other action, Canada trimmed Brazil, 10-7, for 13th place, while Argentina squeaked by Egypt, 9-8, for 15th place. New Zealand rolled Mexico, 8-3, for 17th place, while Iran conquered Columbia, 12-5, for 19th. Lastly, Singapore drubbed Jamaica, 16-5, for 21st, while Kuwait defeated Puerto Rico, 8-6, for 23rd.<\/p>\n
