MISSION VIEJO, Calif., June 25. THE visiting Japanese Olympic team completed its domination of the competition at the Mission Viejo 2000 Swim Meet of Champions by winning all six women's events and three of the six men's events on the final day of competition.<\/p>\n
Junko Onshi cracked a minute in the 100 fly, winning in 59.85, while Noriko Inada clocked 1:01.47 in leading a Japanese 1-2-3 sweep of the 100 back. Fourteen year-old Diana MacManus was the top American, fourth in 1:04.08.<\/p>\n
Masami Tanaka, who won the 200 breast yesterday, annexed the 100 today, finishing in 1:09.13 with Stacianna Stitts second in 1:10.06, after the two touched virtually dead even at the 50. Up-and-coming 16-year-old Erin Sieper was third in 1:10.82, while 31-year-old Masters swimmer Wenke Hansen finished eighth in 1:13.16.<\/p>\n
Tomoko Hagiwara took the 200 IM, but not without a tough fight from Gabrielle Rose. Hagiwara clocked 2:15.77 to Rose's 2:16.48.<\/p>\n
Sachiko Yamada capped her sweep of the distance events, winning the 1500 in a very strong 16:18.95, with 15 year-old Kalyn Keller a lap behind in 16:51.51.<\/p>\n
Japanese teams went 1-2-3 in the 400 medley relay, with the B squad winning in a meet record 4:09.96.<\/p>\n
Takashi Yamamoto, who earlier won the men's 200 fly, took the 100 in 54.27. Sixteen year-old Michael Cavic was second (54.73) with Kevin Northrup third (55.01) and Byron Davis fourth (55.31).<\/p>\n
Akira Hayashi turned the tables on teammate Kosuke Kitajima who had beaten him yesterday in the 200 breast by winning the 100, 1:02.43 to 1:02.91.<\/p>\n
Lenny Krayzelburg just missed his own meet record in winning the 100 back in 55.40. Aaron Peirsol was a fast-closing second (56.14) followed by Polish Olympian Bart Kizierowski in 56.35.<\/p>\n
Jiro Miki led a 1-2-3 Japanese sweep of the 200 IM in 2:04.90. Carl Larsen was the top American, fifth in 2:07.86.<\/p>\n
Ocean State Squid Erik Vendt grabbed the lead at the 550-meter mark in the 1500 and gradually pulled away from the early leader, Japan's Yota Arase to win in 15:29.17. Arase followed in 15:33.53.<\/p>\n
