Michael Andrew<\/strong> never waits for a championship meet to throw down a lifetime best. That was the case at the Club North Swimming Adidas Sprint Classic in Missouri, where the 16-year-old raced in short course yards and left with a U.S. national age group record.<\/p>\n

Andrew dropped a 46.36 in the 100 butterfly, a personal best by more than a second. Andrew had more reason to celebrate, as he barely beat Ryan Hoffer\u2019s<\/strong> 15-16 national age group record of 46.42. Hoffer swam that time at the 2014 winter junior nationals, where Andrew was nine tenths behind in second place.<\/p>\n

Andrew continues to make his mark in the 15-16 age group, where he has now set four national age group records. This 100 fly swim is his first in short course yards for the age group. Though he\u2019s not setting as many records now as he did in the 13-14 age group, he\u2019s still becoming a major talent. He was part of the junior world championships team and earned a couple of medals in his first major international meet.<\/p>\n
