ALMA, Michigan, August 17. AFTER a year as the head coach of the Alma College Swimming and Diving Program, Kyle Schack has accepted a position at Arizona State University coaching distance swimmers. He replaces Greg Winslow, who left ASU to become head coach at the University of Utah.<\/p>\n
Schack served a year at the Division III level with Alma after three years in Division I. Prior to Alma, Schack served as a volunteer assistant coach on the Harvard men's swimming staff. He helped coach the Crimson to an undefeated season, EISL championship and 22nd-place finish at the NCAA Championships in his first year on the job. The second year, which included 13 conference champions and three school records, concluded with a 20th-place finish at the NCAA Championships. During his two years at Harvard, Schack helped the Crimson produce four All-Americans. <\/p>\n
Schack was also the head senior assistant and head junior coach of the Bay and Ocean State Squids. He coached four junior national qualifiers, two USA Scholastic All-American and five individual New England long course champions in the 2005 season. The 2006 campaign was even more successful with five US National qualifiers, one US Olympic Team Trial qualifier, and four Junior National Qualifiers. The Squids took the 2006 New England Swimming Championship, taking the top four spots in the Women's High Point Awards. <\/p>\n
A native of Huntington Woods, Mich., Schack arrived at Harvard from West Virginia, where he earned a master's degree and coached the distance swimmers in 2004. He coached four All-Big East swimmers with the Mountaineers. Schack captained the swimming and water polo teams at Union College, where he was a four-time individual conference champion. He graduated in 2002 with bachelor's degrees in economics and French. After graduation, Schack coached four Division-III All-Americans as a volunteer assistant at Union and was the Junior Coach of the Schenectady Swim Club.<\/p>\n
