AARON Peirsol showed that he means business in the 200 back this week as he wants to take back the world record in the 200 back after losing it to Ryan Lochte at the World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 freestyle prelims<\/b><br \/>\nFrance&#39;s Alain Bernard paced qualifying with a time of 22.54, while Trinidad and Tobago&#39;s George Bovell finished right behind in 22.57.  Sweden&#39;s Stefan Nystrand took third in 22.64, while Spain&#39;s Javier Noriega Sanz (22.69) and Canada&#39;s Brent Hayden (22.71) touched fourth and fifth, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Croatia&#39;s Duje Draganja (22.75), Germany&#39;s Steffen Deibler (22.80) and Croatia&#39;s Alexei Puninski (22.86) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the United States&#39; Jason Lezak made semis with a time of 23.01 for 12th place.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/65.110.72.225\/SPIPDF\/2007parisopenm50freep.pdf target=_blank>Click here to view event results PDF file<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 400 freestyle prelims<\/b><br \/>\nItaly owned the morning&#39;s qualifying with the top two spots.  Massimiliano Rosolino, the European record holder in the event, clocked a 3:49.83, while Federico Colbertaldo finished second in 3:51.59.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#39;s Ryan Cochrane (3:51.90), Russia&#39;s Nikita Lobintsev (3:52.30), Germany&#39;s Paul Biedermann (3:52.26) and Poland&#39;s Mateusz Sawrymowicz (3:52.79) finished third through sixth, while France&#39;s Sebastien Rouault (3:52.90) and Poland&#39;s Pawel Korzeniowski (3:52.80) claimed the final transfer spots into finals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/65.110.72.225\/SPIPDF\/2007parisopenm400freep.pdf target=_blank>Click here to view event results PDF file<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 butterfly prelims<\/b><br \/>\nGermany&#39;s Janine Pietsch posted the only sub-27 time of prelims with a 26.94 to top the morning heats.  Russia&#39;s Irina Bespalova tied world-record holder Therese Alshammar of Sweden for second with matching 27.28s, while Israel&#39;s Anna Gostomelsky (27.35) and Amit Ivri (27.37) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#39;s Natalia Sutyagina (27.40), Ukraine&#39;s Lyubov Korol (27.51) and Poland&#39;s Aleksandra Urbanczyk (27.58) touched sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, the United States&#39; Margaret Hoelzer moved on to semis with a 12th-place 27.83.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/65.110.72.225\/SPIPDF\/2007parisopenw50flyp.pdf target=_blank>Click here to view event results PDF file<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 backstroke prelims<\/b><br \/>\nAaron Peirsol of the United States put himself in position to make some noise when he clocked a 1:57.62.  He will be looking to regain the world record in the 200 back after Ryan Lochte took it from him at Worlds with a time of 1:54.32.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#39;s Akrady Vyatchanin (1:59.66) and Austria&#39;s Markus Rogan (1:59.92) will provide some of his main competition as they finished second and third.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the championship heat is comprised of Israel&#39;s Ehud Segal (2:01.83), Germany&#39;s Helge Meeuw (2:01.97), Russia&#39;s Stanislav Donets (2:02.05), Israel&#39;s Itai Chama (2:02.64), while Portugal&#39;s Pedro Oliveira and Canada&#39;s Charles Francis tied for eighth at 2:02.70s with Francis winning the swim-off, 2:03.63 to 2:03.66.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/65.110.72.225\/SPIPDF\/2007parisopenm200backp.pdf target=_blank>Click here to view event results PDF file<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 breaststroke prelims<\/b><br \/>\nAustria&#39;s Mirna Jukic \tearned lane four during finals with a time of 2:27.66, while Poland&#39;s Iwona Predecka (2:29.53) and the United States&#39; Amanda Beard (2:29.54) placed second and third, respectively.  <\/p>\n<p>Germany&#39;s Birte Steven (2:29.66), Ukraine&#39;s Yuliya Pidlisna (2:29.93), Canada&#39;s Chelsey Salli (2:30.36), Russia&#39;s Vitalina Simonova (2:31.40) and Portugal&#39;s Diana Duarte Gomes (2:32.37) will make up the rest of the championship final.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/65.110.72.225\/SPIPDF\/2007parisopenw200breastp.pdf target=_blank>Click here to view event results PDF file<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 400 medley relay prelims<\/b><br \/>\nUkraine&#39;s team of Olexandr Protsenko, Oleg Lisogor, Sergiy Breus and Olexandr Tsepukh topped qualifying in 3:41.95, while Israel&#39;s contingent of Guy Barnea, Tom Beeri, Nadav Kochavi and Shai Livnat finished second in 3:41.97.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#39;s foursome of Stanislav Donets, Grigory Falko, Igor Marchenko and Andrey Kapralov rounded out the top three in 3:42.26.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/65.110.72.225\/SPIPDF\/2007parisopenw200breastp.pdf target=_blank>Click here to view event results PDF file<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 800 freestyle slower heat<\/b><br \/>\nOnly three women competed in the slower heat of the 800 free. Poland&#39;s Katarzyna Baranowska touched first in 8:47.95, while Spain&#39;s Eider Santamaria Marin took second in 8:48.66.
