{"id":153310,"date":"2015-09-09T18:28:55","date_gmt":"2015-09-10T01:28:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=153310"},"modified":"2015-09-09T18:28:55","modified_gmt":"2015-09-10T01:28:55","slug":"virginia-swimming-and-diving-adds-tennessee-to-2015-2016-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/virginia-swimming-and-diving-adds-tennessee-to-2015-2016-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"Virginia Swimming and Diving Adds Tennessee To 2015-2016 Schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Virginia swimming and diving head coach <strong>Augie Busch<\/strong> announced <span data-term=\"goog_1457508222\">Wednesday<\/span> (Sept. 9) the Cavaliers\u2019 2015-16 schedule, which includes two meets at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very excited about our schedule this year,\u201d Busch said. \u201cWe have added Tennessee to a list of challenging non-conference opponents that include Penn State and Michigan.\u00a0 We wanted to add more racing in January, a critical time of year, and have done so with Notre Dame. This is a schedule that I believe will prepare us to be at our best at the right times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cavaliers will begin the season at home against Tennessee on <span data-term=\"goog_1457508223\">Oct. 16<\/span>. The Volunteer programs both finished in the top 15 nationally in 2015, with the women placing 11th and the men finishing 14th.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia will face Big Ten foes Michigan and Penn State in a tri-meet for the second-consecutive season, this time in Ann Arbor, Mich., <span data-term=\"goog_1457508224\">Oct. 31-Nov. 1<\/span>. The four teams the Cavaliers will compete against all finished in the top 25 in 2015, including the Michigan men, who placed third.<\/p>\n<p>The Cavaliers will close the fall portion of the season at the Georgia Fall Invitational <span data-term=\"goog_1457508225\">Dec. 4-6<\/span>. Last year at the same meet, UVa broke 11 school records.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia will have a busy January, beginning with its final home meet of the season against ACC rival Notre Dame <span data-term=\"goog_1457508226\">Jan. 8-9<\/span>. The Cavaliers then travel to face Virginia Tech and Towson on <span data-term=\"goog_1457508227\">Jan. 15-16<\/span> in Christiansburg, Va., before competing in away dual meets against NC State (<span data-term=\"goog_1457508228\">Jan. 22<\/span>) and North Carolina (<span data-term=\"goog_1457508229\">Jan. 23<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>The Cavalier women\u2019s divers will compete against Richmond on <span data-term=\"goog_1457508230\">Jan. 29<\/span>, while both team\u2019s divers will take part in the JMU Invite on <span data-term=\"goog_1457508231\">Feb. 6<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Greensboro, N.C., will be the site for the ACC championships this season, starting with the women\u2019s swimming and diving and men\u2019s diving meet <span data-term=\"goog_1457508232\">Feb. 17-20<\/span> and men\u2019s swimming meet <span data-term=\"goog_1457508233\">Feb. 24-27<\/span>. In 2015, the Cavalier women won their eighth-consecutive conference title, while the men finished eighth. UVa will also send a few swimmers to the ECAC Championships in Annapolis, Md., <span data-term=\"goog_1457508234\">Feb. 26-28<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The Virginia diving corps will compete for NCAA championship spots at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships <span data-term=\"goog_1457508235\">March 7-9<\/span> in Annapolis, Md. Last season, the Cavaliers had two divers, <strong>JB Kolod<\/strong> and <strong>Becca Corbett<\/strong>, advance to the national meet for the first time. Corbett became the first Virginia female diver to qualify for the NCAA championships.<\/p>\n<p>The NCAA championships will both be held in Atlanta, Ga., with the women\u2019s meet <span data-term=\"goog_1457508236\">March 16-19<\/span> and the men\u2019s meet\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_1457508237\">March 23-26<\/span>. The Cavalier women placed fifth in 2014-15, their highest finish ever and<strong> Leah Smith<\/strong> captured NCAA titles in the 500 free and 1,650 free.
