The Commonwealth Youth Games recently kicked off in Samoa with youth from around the globe gathering to demonstrate their skills and to win medals for their countries. The swimming portion of the Games began with several people earning multiple medals on day one.<\/p>\n
Northern Ireland’s Conor Ferguson<\/b> started the meet off with a win in the men’s 100-meter back finishing with a time of 55.87. Australia’s\u00a0Clyde Lewis<\/strong> finished second overall with a time of 56.19, while\u00a0Bailey Main<\/strong> of New Zealand grabbed \u00a0third with a 56.95.<\/p>\n New Zealand went 1-2 in the women’s 100-meter back with\u00a0Bobbi Gichard<\/strong> finishing first with a final time of 1:00.51 and\u00a0Gabrielle Fa’Amausili\u00a0<\/strong>taking second with a 1:00.86. South Africa’s\u00a0Nathania Van Niekerk<\/strong> was third with a 1:03.00.<\/p>\n The men’s 1500-meter free was led by England’s\u00a0Tom Derbyshire<\/strong> who posted a winning time of 15:31.18.\u00a0Welson Wee Sheng Sim<\/strong> of Malaysia took second with a time of 15:57.72, and Australia’s\u00a0Tristan Zudlow<\/strong> finished third overall with a time of 16:06.06.<\/p>\n The men’s 200-meter fly went to\u00a0Wilrich Coltree<\/strong> of New Zealand and his time of 2:01.85.\u00a0Supriya Mondal<\/strong> of India grabbed second with a finishing time of 2:01.94.\u00a0Brendan Levy<\/strong> of South Africa rounded out the top three with a time of 2:02.19.<\/p>\n Australia’s\u00a0Gemma Cooney<\/strong> posted a winning time of 2:13.51 in the women’s 200-meter fly.\u00a0Meg Finnon<\/strong> of Scottland and\u00a0Tazmin Pugh<\/strong> of England kept it close for second, but it was Finnon who won out posting a time of 2:14.21 for the silver. Pugh took bronze with a time of 2:14.69.<\/p>\n Clyde Lewis grabbed his second medal of the meet in the men’s 200-meter free with a winning time of 1:48.88. Welson Wee Sheng Sim posted a time of 1:49.22 for second, while\u00a0Kyle Chisholm\u00a0<\/strong>of England grabbed third with a 1:51.21.<\/p>\n England’s\u00a0Georgina Boyle<\/strong> grabbed first in the women’s 200-meter free posting a final time of 2:00.72.\u00a0Kathryn Greenslade<\/strong> of Wales finished second overall with a time of 2:01.64, while Australia’s\u00a0Shayna Jack<\/strong> rounded out the top three with a time of 2:01.89.<\/p>\n Zane Waddell<\/strong> of South Africa dashed to first in the men’s 50-meter fly winning with a time of 24.52.\u00a0Brayden McCarthy<\/strong> of Australia grabbed second with a time of 24.90, while England’s\u00a0Lewis Clough<\/strong> was a close third with a time of 24.94.<\/p>\n South Africa’s\u00a0Erin Paige Gallagher<\/strong>\u00a0collected a gold medal in the women’s 50-meter fly with a time of 27.20.
