SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design) has announced that former world champion swimmer, Bill Pilczuk<\/strong>, has been promoted to the head coach position. Pilczuk served as an assistant coach at SCAD for the past two years replaces Chris Conlon<\/strong> who resigned in July to take an Athletic Director position in Maryland.<\/p>\n

“I’m excited about the opportunity to lead the Bees in our quest to win the third national title for the women and first for the men this season,” said Pilczuk.<\/p>\n

While an assistant coach, Pilczuk helped lead both the men’s and women’s swim team to top five finishes at the NAIA National Championship each year. Pilczuk earned the SCAD athletic department assistant coach of the year honors in 2014, and was nominated again in 2015.<\/p>\n

“Over the past two years Coach Pilczuk has done a very fine job of assisting both the men’s and women’s swim programs,” said Athletic Director Doug Wollenburg<\/strong>. “He is highly respected by the current swim team.”<\/p>\n

Prior to joining the Bees, Pilczuk worked as a consultant, working with individuals swimmers, club teams, camps, clinics and coaching, including several 2012 Olympic team members at SwimMAC Carolina.<\/p>\n

Pilczuk served as the National Sprint Coach and National Youth Coach for Great Britain from 2003 – 2008, and selected to coach on several international teams including the World Championships, Junior World Championships, European Championships, European Juniors, Australian Age-Group Championships and the FINA World Cups. Two of his athletes were finalists in the 2008 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

Prior to embarking on his coaching career, Pilczuk was a three time All-American at Auburn University and was a member of the United States National Team from 1994-2001. While on the national team, Pilczuk won the 50m freestyle at the 1998 World Championships and the 1997 Pan Pacific Games, as well as being a member of the 4x50m medley relay team that broke the World Record in 1996. In addition to that, he won a silver medal in the 50m freestyle at the Pan American Games, a silver medal in 50m freestyle at the World University Games, and a bronze the 50m freestyle champion at the Pan Pacific Games in 1999.<\/p>\n

The Cape May Point, New Jersey native graduated magna cum laude from Auburn University in 1994 and received a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology in 1998.<\/p>\n
