Men’s 100 free finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Australia’s Kyle Chalmers<\/strong> blasted the meet record in the men’s 100-meter free finals at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Chalmers raced his way to a sizzling 48.47 to crush the 48.87 set by Pedro Spajari<\/strong> yesterday.<\/p>\n

That swim moved Chalmers up to 17th in the world rankings, and smashed his previous season best of 48.69 that led all 18-and-unders.<\/p>\n

Maxime Rooney<\/strong> uncorked a smoking 48.87 for the USA to take silver, while Brazil’s Felipe Souza<\/strong> rounded out the podium with a third-place 49.30.<\/p>\n

Spajari could not replicate his semifinal speed with a fourth-place 49.56.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Alessandro Miressi<\/strong> (49.61), Canada’s Markus Thormeyer<\/strong> (49.76), Romania’s Robert Glinta<\/strong> (49.87) and Italy’s Alessandro Bori<\/strong> (50.16) closed out the finale.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 breast finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Turkey’s Viktoria Zeynep Gunes<\/strong> unleashed a world best time in the women’s 200-meter breast at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Gunes blazed her way to a stunning time of 2:19.64 to win the finale at the end of a sterling meet.<\/p>\n

That performance beat Kanako Watanabe’s<\/strong> 2:20.90 from Japanese Nationals as the top time in the world this year.<\/p>\n

Gunes also vaulted to fourth all time in the event’s history as she joined an exclusive 2:19 club.<\/p>\n

Incidentally, Gunes also crushed her own World Junior record of 2:22.69 set at the 2015 French Open in Vichy last month.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Mariia Astashkina<\/strong> took second in 2:24.57 with teammate Sofia Andreeva<\/strong> earning third in 2:24.88.<\/p>\n

Japan’s Runa Imai<\/strong> (2:25.52), Italy’s Giulia Verona<\/strong> (2:25.90), Great Britain’s Katie Matts<\/strong> (2:27.41), Great Britain’s Georgia Coates<\/strong> (2:28.31) and Japan’s Yukino Miyasaka<\/strong> (2:29.50) comprised the rest of the championship heat.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 back finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Spain’s Hugo Gonzalez<\/strong> clipped a pair of Americans for the men’s 200-meter back title at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez checked in with a top time of 1:58.11, just missing the meet record of 1:57.92 set by Luca Mencarini<\/strong> back in 2013.<\/p>\n

USA’s Michael Taylor<\/strong> (1:58.39) and Austin Katz<\/strong> (1:58.51) placed second and third to round out the podium.<\/p>\n

Great Britain’s Luke Greenbank<\/strong> (1:58.74), Italy’s Jacopo Bietti<\/strong> (1:59.58), Australia’s Tristan Ludlow<\/strong> (2:00.01), Poland’s Jakub Skierka<\/strong> (2:00.57) and Russia’s Roman Larin<\/strong> (2:01.12) finished fourth through eighth.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 fly finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Japan’s Rikako Ikee<\/strong> closed out her impressive meet with another triumph, this time in the women’s 100-meter fly at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Ikee clocked a meet-record time of 58.28 in the finale. \u00a0That swim eclipsed the previous record of 58.34 set by Svetlana Chimrova<\/strong> back in 2013.<\/p>\n

Penny Oleksiak<\/strong> of Canada picked up silver with a time of 58.50, while Australia’s Gemma Cooney<\/strong> earned the bronze with a time of 58.98.<\/p>\n

USA’s Cassidy Bayer<\/strong> (59.04), Australia’s Lucia Lassman<\/strong> (59.53), Hungary’s Szonja Szokol<\/strong> (59.74), Russia’s Polina Egorova<\/strong> (59.74) and China’s Wang Jingzhuo<\/strong> (1:00.04) also competed in the finale.<\/p>\n

Men’s 1500 free finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Brazil’s Brandonn Almeida<\/strong> demonstrated some serious closing speed as he overhauled USA’s Taylor Abbott<\/strong> in the men’s 1500-meter free at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Almeida won the finale in a time of 15:15.88, while Abbott took second in 15:16.35 after leading for nearly the entire race.<\/p>\n

Spain’s Cesar Castro<\/strong> edged China’s Qiu Ziao<\/strong> for third, 15:17.10 to 15:17.54.<\/p>\n

Greece’s Dimitrios Negris<\/strong> (15:18.74), Australia’s Joshua Parrish<\/strong> (15:21.15), Hungary’s Kristof Rsovszky<\/strong> (15:24.91) and South Africa’s Matthew Meyer<\/strong> (15:25.76) closed out the top eight in the timed final event.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 free finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Russia’s Mariia Kameneva<\/strong> just missed the meet record in the women’s 50-meter free at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Kameneva hit the wall in 25.12, just ahead of Japan’s Rikako Ikee’s<\/strong> second-place time of 25.19.<\/p>\n

Both swims came up short of Rozaliya Nasretdinova’s<\/strong> 2013 meet record of 25.02.<\/p>\n

Australia’s Shayna Jack<\/strong> placed third overall in 25.24.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Daria S. Ustinova<\/strong> (25.39), China’s Tang Yuting<\/strong> (25.59), Hungary’s Flora Molnar<\/strong> (25.59), USA’s Ashley Volpenhein<\/strong> (25.68) and USA’s Lauren Pitzer<\/strong> (25.93) also competed in the finale.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 fly finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Japan’s Nao Horomura<\/strong> turned on the afterburners down the stretch to win the men’s 200-meter fly at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Horomura closed on Russia’s Daniil Pakhomov<\/strong> with a winning time of 1:56.80. \u00a0Pakhomov faded to second in 1:56.93.<\/p>\n

Both swimmers fell half-a-second off Andrew Seliskar’s<\/strong> meet record of 1:56.42 set back in 2013.<\/p>\n

USA’s Mike Thomas<\/strong> placed third overall in a time of 1:57.61.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Giacomo Carini<\/strong> (1:58.04), USA’s Zach Harting<\/strong> (1:59.42), Bulgaria’s Antani Ivanov<\/strong> (1:59.93), Hungary’s Mark Tekauer<\/strong> (2:00.51) and New Zealand’s Wilrich Coetzee<\/strong> (2:00.62) finished fourth through eighth.<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 breast finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lithuania’s Andrius Sidlauskas<\/strong> cracked 28 seconds to win the men’s 50-meter breast at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Sidlauskas moved closer to Peter John Stevens’<\/strong> World Junior record of 27.74 from 2013 with a winning time of 27.99 tonight.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi<\/strong> claimed silver overall in the sprint breast with a time of 28.03, while Croatia’s Nikola Obrovac<\/strong> took home the bronze with a time of 28.11.<\/p>\n

China’s Shen Hao<\/strong> wound up fourth overall in 28.18, while Great Britain’s Charlie Attwood<\/strong> hit the wall fifth in 28.28.<\/p>\n

USA’s Reece Whitley<\/strong> (28.33), Russia’s Anton Chupkov<\/strong> (28.41) and USA’s Michael Andrew<\/strong> (28.44) finished sixth through eighth to comprise the rest of the championship finale.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 free finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Canada’s Taylor Ruck<\/strong> tracked down the meet record in the women’s 200-meter free at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Ruck hit the wall in 1:57.87, downing the previous record of 1:58.12 set by Tamsin Cook<\/strong> earlier this week as a relay leadoff.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Arina Openysheva<\/strong> finished second in the finale with a 1:58.28, while USA’s Hannah Cox<\/strong> claimed bronze in a time of 1:59.28.<\/p>\n

Japan’s Sachi Mochida<\/strong> (1:59.39), Italy’s Rachele Ceracchi<\/strong> (2:01.09), Great Britain’s Holly Hibbott<\/strong> (2:01.29), Russia’s Daria Mullakaeva<\/strong> (2:01.45) and Brazil’s Rafaela Raurich<\/strong> (2:01.89) closed out the finale.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 medley relay finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Russia dominated the men’s 400-meter medley relay en route to a meet record at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Roman Larin, Anton Chupkov, Daniil Pakohomov<\/strong> and Vladislav Kozlo<\/strong>v won the finale in 3:36.44.<\/p>\n

That swim downed the meet record of 3:38.13 set by Japan in 2013, and just missed clearing\u00a0the World Junior record of 3:36.38 set by Philipp Shopin<\/strong>, Chupkov, Pakhomov and Kozlov at the 2015 European Games.<\/p>\n

USA’s Michael Taylor, Reece Whitley, Michael Andrew<\/strong> and Maxime Rooney<\/strong> raced their way to a silver in 3:37.51.<\/p>\n

Australia’s Clyde Lewis, Matthew Wilson, Brayden McCarthy<\/strong> and Kyle Chalmers<\/strong> earned bronze in 3:40.21.<\/p>\n

Brazil (3:42.78), Spain (3:43.10), Canada (3:44.12), Turkey (3:44.99) and Singapore (3:47.40) also competed in the finale.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 medley relay finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Russia finished the meet with a medley relay sweep as the women crushed the World Junior record in the women’s 400-meter medley relay at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Irina Prikhodko, Mariia Astashkina, Polina Egorova<\/strong> and Mariia Kameneva<\/strong> raced their way to a sizzling 4:01.05.<\/p>\n

That swim not only blasted the meet record of 4:40.48 set in 2013, it cut more than two seconds from the World Junior record of 4:03.22 set by Kameneva, Astashkina, Egorova and Arina Openysheva<\/strong> at the 2015 European Games in Baku this summer.<\/p>\n

Australia’s Minna Atherton, Ella Bond, Gemma Cooney<\/strong> and Shayna Jack<\/strong> claimed silver in 4:02.42.<\/p>\n

Japan’s Natsumi Sakai, Runa Imai, Rikako Ikee<\/strong> and Sachi Mochida<\/strong> picked up bronze in 4:03.10.<\/p>\n

USA’s Claire Adams, Kennedy Lohman, Cassidy Bayer<\/strong> and Lauren Pitzer<\/strong> placed fourth in 4:03.90.<\/p>\n
