Women’s 1500 free finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Italy’s Simona Quadarella<\/strong> crushed the meet record in the women’s 1500-meter free at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Quadarella won the event in a time of 16:05.61. \u00a0That swim demolished the 2011 meet record of 16:18.63 set by Slovenia’s Tjasa Oder<\/strong> in Lima, Peru.<\/p>\n

The swim pushed Quadarella to ninth in the world rankings.<\/p>\n

USA rounded out the rest of the podium as Sierra Schmidt<\/strong> finished second in 16:12.84, also under the meet record, and Gabrielle Kopenski<\/strong> took third in 16:21.15.<\/p>\n

Australia’s Tamsin Cook<\/strong> (16:22.92), Hungary’s Adel Juhasz<\/strong> (16:24.29), Italy’s Linda Caponi<\/strong> (16:34.06), Canada’s Olivia Anderson<\/strong> (16:37.03) and Hungary’s Janka Juhasz<\/strong> (16:38.31) closed out the top eight in the timed final event.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 free semis<\/strong><\/p>\n

Brazil’s Pedro Spajari<\/strong> clipped the meet record in the men’s 100-meter free semis at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Spajari hit the wall in a time of 48.87, breaking the previous record of 48.97 set by Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> of the USA back in 2013.<\/p>\n

That’s the second-best swim by an 18-and-under this year behind Kyle Chalmers’<\/strong> 48.69 from Australian Nationals.<\/p>\n

USA’s Maxime Rooney<\/strong>, who has been on fire here in Singapore, raced his way to the second seed in 49.39. \u00a0Canada’s Markus Thormeyer<\/strong> claimed the third seed in 49.59.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s Felipe Souza<\/strong> (49.62), Italy’s Alessandro Miressi<\/strong> (49.63), Australia’s Kyle Chalmers<\/strong> (49.65), Italy’s Alessandro Bori<\/strong> (49.70) and Romania’s Robert Glinta<\/strong> (49.97) all cleared 50 seconds to make the finale.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 fly semis<\/strong><\/p>\n

Japan’s Rikako Ikee<\/strong> cracked the 59-second mark to lead the way in the women’s 100-meter fly semis at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Ikee put up a top qualifying time of 58.98 as the only swimmer under 59 seconds in the semis.<\/p>\n

USA’s Cassidy Bayer<\/strong> qualified second in 59.00 with Australia’s Gemma Cooney<\/strong> taking third in 59.01.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Penny Oleksiak<\/strong> (59.45), Australia’s Lucia Lassman<\/strong> (59.50), Russia’s Polina Egorova<\/strong> (59.71), Hungary’s Szonja Szokol<\/strong> (59.82) and China’s Wang Jingzhuo<\/strong> (59.87) also managed to make their way into the championship field.<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 fly finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ukraine’s Andrii Khloptsov<\/strong> just missed the men’s 50-meter fly meet record with a win at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Khloptsov chased down the title in 23.64, just off Daniel Bell’s<\/strong> meet mark of 23.61 from 2008 in Monterrey, Mexico.<\/p>\n

The time was well off the World Junior record of 23.28 set by Evgeny Sedov<\/strong> at the 2014 Russian Nationals.<\/p>\n

USA’s Michael Andrew<\/strong> captured silver in a time of 23.84, while Russia’s Daniil Pakhomov<\/strong> placed third overall in 23.89.<\/p>\n

Spain’s Alberto Lozano<\/strong> (23.95), Croatia’s Bruno Blaskovic<\/strong> (23.98), Poland’s Michal Chudy<\/strong> (24.45), Russia’s Vladislav Kozlov<\/strong> (24.54) and Brazil’s Vinicius Lanza<\/strong> (24.57) comprised the rest of the championship heat.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 free semis<\/strong><\/p>\n

Russia’s Daria S. Ustinova<\/strong> paced a Russian 1-2 in the women’s 50-meter free semis at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Ustinova led the way with a 25.22, just off Rozaliya Nasretdinova’s<\/strong> meet record of 25.02 from 2013.<\/p>\n

Ustinova has some time to drop in finals to challenge the meet record as well as the World Junior mark of 24.87 by Chen Xinyi<\/strong> at the 2014 Asian Games.<\/p>\n

Mariia Kameneva<\/strong> hit the wall second in 25.44 with Australia’s Shayna Jack<\/strong> qualifying third in 25.47.<\/p>\n

Hungary’s Flora Molnar<\/strong> (25.54), China’s Tang Yuting<\/strong> (25.54), Japan’s Rikako Ikee<\/strong> (25.57), USA’s Ashley Volpenhein<\/strong> (25.82) and USA’s Lauren Pitzer<\/strong> (25.84) made the finals as well.<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 breast semis<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lithuania’s Andrius Sidlauskas<\/strong> had the top time in the men’s 50-meter breast semis at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Sidlauskas raced his way to a 28.16 to lead the way into finals. \u00a0He has some serious time to drop if he wants to challenge the World Junior and meet record of 27.74 set by Peter John Stevens<\/strong> of Slovenia back in 2013.<\/p>\n

Croatia’s Nikola Obrovac<\/strong> qualified second in a time of 28.21, while Russia’s Anton Chupkov<\/strong> turned in a third-seeded time of 28.33.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi<\/strong> (28.37), USA’s Michael Andrew<\/strong> (28.44), Great Britain’s Charlie Attwood<\/strong> (28.56), USA’s Reece Whitley<\/strong> (28.58) and China’s Shen Hao<\/strong> (28.59) also will compete in the championship finale.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 back finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

New Zealand’s Gabrielle Fa’Amausili<\/strong> moved to seventh in the world with a World Junior record in the women’s 50-meter back finals at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Fa’Amausili unleashed a top time of 27.81 for the victory, breaking Minna Atherton’s<\/strong> short-lived World Junior mark of 27.92 set during semis.<\/p>\n

Atherton, meanwhile, took silver in a time of 27.83 to move to eighth in the world rankings.<\/p>\n

Danielle Hanus<\/strong> of Canada took third tonight in 28.26 with New Zealand’s Bobbi Gichard<\/strong> earning fourth in 28.40.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Irina Prikhodko<\/strong> (28.69), Germany’s Laura Riedemann<\/strong> (28.88), USA’s Grace Ariola<\/strong> (28.95) and South Africa’s Mariella Venter<\/strong> (29.17) also competed for the title.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 IM finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

USA’s Sean Grieshop<\/strong> upset World Junior-record holder Brandonn Almeida<\/strong> of Brazil in the men’s 400-meter IM at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Grieshop overtook Almeida down the stretch with a 4:15.67 for the win. Almeida, meanwhile, settled for silver with a 4:17.06.<\/p>\n

Almeida had been much faster this year with a World Junior record 4:14.47 at the Pan American Games in Toronto last month.<\/p>\n

Spain’s Hugo Gonzalez<\/strong> finished third in 4:18.14, while USA’s Charlie Swanson<\/strong> wound up fourth in 4:20.37.<\/p>\n

Hungary’s Daniel Sos<\/strong> finished fifth in 4:20.46 with Russia’s Nikolay Sokolov<\/strong> placing sixth in 4:21.17.<\/p>\n

China’s Wang Zhou<\/strong> (4:25.41) and Portugal’s Joao Vital<\/strong> (4:26.12) closed out the rest of the championship field.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 free relay finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lucy Elizabeth McJannett<\/strong> delivered a scorching anchor as Australia clipped Russia for the women’s 400-meter free relay at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Shayna Jack, Minna Atherton, Gemma Cooney<\/strong> and McJannett won the finale in a time of 3:39.87.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Arina Openysheva, Mariia Kameneva, Daria Mullakaeva<\/strong> and Daria S. Ustinova<\/strong> placed second in 3:39.91.<\/p>\n

Both swims blasted the World Junior record of 3:40.14 set by USA’s Stanzi Moseley, Amy Bilquist, Katie Drabot<\/strong> and Katrina Konopka<\/strong> at the 2014 Junior Pan Pacific Championships.<\/p>\n

The meet record of 3:41.40 set by Russia in 2013 also took a tumble.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Penny Oleksiak, Rebecca Smith, Mary-Sophie Harvey<\/strong> and Taylor Ruck<\/strong> earned bronze in 3:40.26, also under the meet record.<\/p>\n

Japan (3:41.67), USA (3:43.07), China (3:45.81), Brazil (3:46.93) and Germany (3:47.73) also competed in the finale.<\/p>\n
