OXFORD, Ohio, July 25. AVA Ohlgren, swimming unattached, had a fruitful finals session during the third night of long course meter swimming at the Oxford Speedo Sectional.<\/p>\n
By the end of the night, Ohlgren had a pair of meet records added to her resume as the claimed both the 100 back and 200 fly events. In the 100 back, she ripped off a 1:03.10 during the first event of the night to chop a second off the former record of 1:04.29 set by Erin Forster on Aug. 3, 2002. <\/p>\n
Then, Ohlgren provided the individual event bookend with a meet-standard time of 2:12.94 in the 200 fly, which was the final individual race of the evening. Not only did Ohlgren beat her closest competitor (Audrey Lawson, 16, of the Northern Kentucky Clippers) by seven seconds, she cut nearly a second off Whitney Myers' standard of 2:13.71 recorded on July 24, 2003.<\/p>\n
Two other meet records fell during final session of the day as Mt. Lebanon's Kaitlyn Orstein emerged from among a competitive 100 breaststroke field with a top time of 1:13.30. That performance nipped the previous record of 1:13.31 set by Kelli Stein on July 28, 2001. Megan Alexander of Ohio State (1:13.88), Ashley Specht, 16, of Greater Columbus (1:13.89) and Tracy Menzel of Sugar Creek (1:13.89) provided an exciting finish for second place.<\/p>\n
Rob Andrew, 17, of Great Lakes Aquatics became the first sub-4:00 400 free man in meet history with a time of 3:58.95. That performance cleared the 4:00.05 set by the great Peter Vanderkaay on July 28, 2001.<\/p>\n
Other individual winners included Amanda Smith of the Mason Manta Rays in the women's 400 free (4:18.73), Austin Staab of Westerville Aquatics in the men's 100 back (57.19), Justin Peterfish also of Westerville Aquatics in the men's 100 breast (1:05.19) and Brian Lewis in the men's 200 fly (2:04.82).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
