Maxime Rooney<\/strong>\u00a0of the USA claimed the top seed in the men’s 200-meter free during prelims of day two with a sizzling 1:47.86, making him the only swimmer of the session to go under the 1:48 mark. Rooney’s time is only .31 seconds off\u00a0Mack Horton’s<\/strong>\u00a0meet record of 1:47.55 from 2013.<\/p>\n

Australia’s\u00a0Damian Fyfe\u00a0<\/strong>claimed the second-place seed with a quick 1:49.21, while Russia’s\u00a0Elisei Stepanov<\/b>\u00a0took third with a time of 1:49.72 from heat eight.<\/p>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]

Great Britain’s\u00a0Cameron Kurle\u00a0<\/strong>and Russia’s\u00a0Ernest Maksumov<\/strong>\u00a0kept it close in heat six claiming both the fourth and fifth-place seeds. Kurle posted a time of 1:49.90 to finish ahead of Maksumov’s 1:49.97.<\/p>\n

Grant Shoults<\/strong>\u00a0of the USA finished sixth overall in prelims with a time of 1:50.05, while Tunisia’s\u00a0Mohamed Mehdi Lagili<\/strong>\u00a0posted a time of 1:50.21 for the seventh-place seed.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s\u00a0Felipe Souza\u00a0<\/strong>rounded out the top eight with a time of 1:50.54 for tonight’s finals.<\/p>\n
