Teammate\u00a0<strong>Yang Jintong<\/strong>\u00a0finished close behind with a 3:51.27 to claim the second-place seed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grant Shoults<\/strong> of the USA finished third overall with a time of 3:51.48.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Joshua Parish<\/strong> claimed the fourth-place seed with a time of 3:51.93. All four men are less than five seconds off of the Championship Record of 3:47.12 set by Mack Horton in 2013.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ricardo Vargas<\/strong> of Mexico turned in a 3:53.53 in heat six to top\u00a0<strong>Matthew Hirschberger<\/strong> of the USA&#8217;s time of 3:53.59 from heat seven.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cameron Kurle\u00a0<\/strong>finished seventh overall with a time of 3:54.10, while Venezuela&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rafael Davila<\/strong> rounds out the top eight with a 3:54.39.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WOMEN&#8217;S 50 BREAST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Turkey&#8217;s <b>Viktoria Zeynep Gunes\u00a0<\/b>leads the competition in the women&#8217;s 50-meter breaststroke going into tonight&#8217;s semi-finals. Gunes posted a time of 30.73 to make her the only competitor to go under the 31-second mark in prelims.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katie Matts<\/strong>\u00a0and Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sophie Hansson<\/strong> are tied for second going into tonight&#8217;s semi-finals after both posted a 31.48.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nikol Popov<\/strong> of the USA claimed the third-place seed with a 31.69, while Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yukino Miyasaka\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed a close fifth with a 31.76.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kennedy Lohman<\/strong> of the USA will join teammate Popov after posting a 32.00. Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ella Bond<\/strong> grabbed seventh with a 32.15, while Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mariia Astashkina<\/strong>\u00a0and Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Szonja\u00a0Szokol\u00a0<\/strong>tied for eighth with a 32.40.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Runa Imai<\/strong> (32.42), Slovenia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tina Celik\u00a0<\/strong>(32.51), Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Laura Kelsch<\/strong> (32.53), Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daria Chikunova<\/strong> (32.56), Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Giulia Verona<\/strong> (32.66), Slovakia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrea Podmanikova\u00a0<\/strong>(32.66), and Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Calypso Sheridan<\/strong> (32.73) round out the top sixteen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MEN&#8217;S 100 BACK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 100-meter back has already proved to be an exciting race with the Championship Record being broken twice during prelims.\u00a0<strong>Hugo Gonzalez\u00a0<\/strong>of Spain originally broke the record of 54.87 set by <strong>Christou Apostolos\u00a0<\/strong>in 2013 when he turned in 54.80 in heat five. Not two heats later\u00a0<strong>Michael Taylor<\/strong> of the USA clocked a 54.74 to claim the record for himself and earn the top seed going into tonight&#8217;s semi-finals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong> of the USA posted a 54.90 to earn himself a spot in the middle of the pool at third.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Markus Thormeyer<\/strong> and Romania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Glinta<\/strong> turned in close times, finishing only .04 seconds apart in heat five. Thormeyer managed to get his hand to the wall first with a final time of 55.12 over Glinta&#8217;s 55.16.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clyde Lewis<\/strong> of Australia and\u00a0<strong>Abdalla Youssef<\/strong> of Egypt also posted close times from heat six finishing only .02 seconds apart. Lewis clocked a 55.36, while Youssef finished with a 55.38.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Luke\u00a0<\/strong><b>Greenback\u00a0<\/b>rounds out the top eight with a 55.54.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Javier Acevedo<\/strong> (55.68), New Zealand&#8217;s\u00a0<b>Willrich\u00a0Coetzee<\/b> (55.84), Greece&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nikolaos Sofianidis<\/strong> (55.92), Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Guilherme Basseto<\/strong> (55.93), Ireland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Conor Ferguson<\/strong> (55.94), Portugal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gabriel Lopes<\/strong> (56.05), Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Roman Larin<\/strong> (56.07), and the Czech Republic&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tomas Franta<\/strong> (56.13) finish up the qualifiers for tonight&#8217;s semi-finals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WOMEN&#8217;S 400 INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Georgia Coates<\/strong> of Great Britain leads the women going into tonight&#8217;s finals of the 400-meter IM with a time of 4:42.19, only 2.17 seconds off the meet record of 4:40.02 set by <strong>Ella Eastin<\/strong> in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Africa\u00a0Zamorano\u00a0<\/strong>claimed the second-place seed going into tonight&#8217;s finals with a time of 4:43.21.\u00a0<strong>Brooke Forde<\/strong> of the USA was close behind in Zamorano in heat five with a finishing time of 4:43.96. Both Zamorano and Coates&#8217; times earned them spots in the Top 25 World Rankings for 18 &amp; unders.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rosie Rudin<\/strong> posted a 4:44.14 from heat five to claim the fourth-place seed for tonight&#8217;s finals, while Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hiroko Makino<\/strong> is seeded a close fifth with a time of 4:44.58.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ilaria Cusinato<\/strong> grabbed sixth from heat five with a time of 4:46.10. Serbia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anja Crevar<\/strong>\u00a0took seventh overall with a 4:46.23, while\u00a0<strong>Savanna\u00a0<\/strong><b>Faulconer<\/b> of the USA rounded out the top eight with a 4:47.01.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MEN&#8217;S 100 BREAST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Anton Chupkov<\/strong> of Russia succeeded in lowering his own World Junior record and setting a new Championship Record in the men&#8217;s 100-meter breaststroke during prelims after posting a time of 1:00.12 This replaces his World Junior record of 1:00.84 from 2014, as well as,\u00a0<strong>Ilya Khomenko&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>meet record of 1:00.88 from 2013.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reece Whitley<\/strong> of the USA claimed the second-place seed with a time of 1:01.48, adding slightly to his time of 1:01.06 that he posted earlier this summer at the US National Championships. Teammate\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong> joins him at third with a qualifying time of 1:01.54.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matthew Wilson<\/strong> was a close fourth, turning in a time of 1:01.55 from heat seven.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nicolo Martinenghi<\/strong> finished fifth overall in prelims with a qualifying time of 1:01.90, making him the last qualifier under the 1:02 mark.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlie Attwood<\/strong> of Great Britain turned in a 1:02.06 to earn the sixth-place seed, while Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Grayson Bell<\/strong> finished seventh overall with a time of 1:02.33. Lithuania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrius Sidlauskas<\/strong> joins them in the top eight with a time of 1:02.40.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ippei Miyamoto\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.77), China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Shen Hao<\/strong> (1:02.92), Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Egor Suchkov<\/strong> (1:03.00), China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Liu Yunsong<\/strong> (1:03.03), Belgium&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Basten Caerts<\/strong> (1:03.05), Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jacek Arentewicz<\/strong> (1:03.10), Austria&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Christopher Rothbauer<\/strong> (1:03.30), and Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Warren Mayer<\/strong> (1:03.55) round out the top sixteen finishers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WOMEN&#8217;S 100 BACK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Minna Atherton<\/strong> of Australia became the fourth person during prelims of day one to set a new meet record, claiming the 100-meter back with a time of 59.83. Atherton&#8217;s time replaces\u00a0<strong>Daryna Zevina&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>time of 1:00.59 from 2011 and also lowers\u00a0<strong>Daria\u00a0Ustinov&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>World Junior record of 1:00.25 from 2014.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Claire Adams<\/strong> of the USA grabbed the second-place seed with a time of 1:00.46, adding to her time of 59.58 from US National Championships earlier this summer in San Antonio.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Danielle Hanus\u00a0<\/strong>claimed the third-place seed with a time of 1:00.80, improving upon her time of 1:01.13 from the 2015 Canadian Swimming Trials.<\/p>\n<p>New Zealand teammates\u00a0<strong>Gabrielle Fa&#8217;Amausili\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Bobbi Gichard<\/strong> grabbed fourth and fifth respectively. Fa&#8217;Amausili turned in a 1:00.86, while Gichard posted a time of 1:01.12.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong> of Canada finished sixth in prelims with a time of 1:01.36, adding slightly to her time of 1:01.06 from the 2015 Canadian Swimming Trials.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Irina Prikhodko<\/strong> grabbed the seventh-place seed with a 1:01.50, while\u00a0<strong>Grace Ariola<\/strong> of the USA turned in a time of 1:01.73 for eighth.<\/p>\n<p>The Czech Republic&#8217;s <b>Tereza Grusova<\/b> (1:01.87), Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mariia Kameneva<\/strong> (1:01.91), Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Laura Riedemann<\/strong> (1:01.94), Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lucy Elizabeth McJannett<\/strong> (1:02.01), Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nasumi Sakai<\/strong> (1:02.29), Ukraine&#8217;s <b>Maryna Kolesnykova<\/b> (1:02.59), South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mariella Venter<\/strong> (1:02.84), and Kazakhstan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yekaterina Dymchenko<\/strong> (1:03.02) complete the top sixteen qualifiers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MEN&#8217;S 400 FREE RELAY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The United States\u00a0relay team of <strong>Ryan Hoffer, Daniel Krueger, Michael Jensen<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Maxime Rooney<\/strong>\u00a0topped the competition in prelims of the men&#8217;s 400-meter freestyle relay finishing with a time of 3:17.84. This time puts them only .88 seconds off the meet and\u00a0World Junior record of 3:16.96 set in 2013 by Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s relay team of <strong>Ivano Veraname, Giovanni Izzo, Alessandro Bori\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Alessandro\u00a0<\/strong><b>Mires<\/b>\u00a0grabbed the second-place seed for tonight&#8217;s finals with a time of 3:19.35.<\/p>\n<p>The relay team of <strong>Jack Cartwright, Vincent Dai, Brayden McCarthy<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Kyle Chalmers\u00a0<\/strong>from Australia rounded out the top three with a time of 3:20.10.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s relay consisting of <strong>Pedro Spajari, Victor Furtado, Victor Santos<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Felipe Souza\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth overall with a qualifying time of 3:20.72, while Canada&#8217;s <strong>Markus Thormeyer, Stephen Calkins, Carson Olafson<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Javier Acevedo\u00a0<\/strong>were a close fifth with a time of 3:20.98.<\/p>\n<p>Russia claimed the sixth-place seed with a time of 3:21.48, while Egypt (3:23.84) and Venezuela (3:24.03) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WOMEN&#8217;S 800 FREE RELAY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The United States relay team of\u00a0<strong>Samantha Shelton, Sierra Schmidt, Tatum Wade<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Lauren Case<\/strong>\u00a0topped the competition in prelims of the women&#8217;s 800-meter free relay with a time of 8:01.43, putting them\u00a0close to the meet and world junior record of 7:59.42 set by the USA in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s team of <strong>Penny Oleksiak, Rebecca Smith, Meryn McCann\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Mary-Sophie Harvey\u00a0<\/strong>finished second with a time of 8:04.12, while Russia&#8217;s relay consisting of <strong>Valeriia Salamatina, Daria\u00a0Ustinova, Irina Krivonogova<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Anastasiia Kirpichnikova\u00a0<\/strong>took third overall with a time of 8:05.56.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s <b>Gemma Cooney, Ariarne Titmus, Mikayla Messer<\/b> and\u00a0<strong>Tamsin Cook\u00a0<\/strong>claimed fourth with a qualifying time of 8:07.14, while Spain&#8217;s foursome of <strong>Elisa Sanchez, Laura Rodriguez, Marta Cano\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Africa Zamorano<\/strong>\u00a0turned in a time of 8:08.02 to qualify fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Italy finished sixth overall with a time of 8:08.13, while Japan (8:09.36) and China (8:10.04) finished seventh and eighth respectively.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2015-fina-wold-junior-championships-day-one-prelims-day-1\/international-club-age-group\/2015\/August\/25\" target=\"_blank\">2015 FINA Wold Junior Championships, Day One Prelims &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Everything you need to follow along with day one prelims of the FINA World Junior Championships.
