SEATTLE, Washington, July 18. WASHINGTON head swimming coach Whitney Hite has announced the addition of Helen Rychecky as assistant coach for the 2007-08 season. She will assist with travel, coordinating team building activities, observing swimmers academic progress, team nutrition, as well as her on-deck responsibilities.<\/p>\n
"Helen is a great addition to our staff," said Hite. "She is very passionate about the sport of swimming and brings a very positive influence to our program. I couldn't be more excited to have Helen as a part of Washington Swimming."<\/p>\n
Rychecky comes to Washington from Littleton, Colo., where she worked as a sixth grade teacher and coached the club team Highlands Ranch Aquatics. With HRA, Rychecky's main focus was with the developmental group on stroke technique and mechanics. She was also responsible for organizing and planning travel and team functions. While coaching, Rychecky also obtained a master's degree in Education from the University of Colorado in 2004.<\/p>\n
Before taking the reigns of the Highlands Ranch Aquatics team, Rychecky was a standout swimmer at the University of Denver where she specialized in the butterfly and backstroke events. A nine-time school record holder, Rychecky graduated in 2002 with a degree in Communication and Spanish. She was also named the 1999 University of Denver Female Athlete of the Year.<\/p>\n
"I am very eager to begin a new chapter in my life and am honored to work with and learn from Whitney in all aspects of collegiate swimming," said Rychecky. "He has worked with some amazing athletes and coaches for the past several years and I know that I will have a similar experience. I am also privileged to be working with a Husky Alumni (Assistant coach Brendon Bray) and an Olympic gold medalist (assistant coach Tommy Hannan) to guide me through this career change. <\/p>\n
