ARHUS, Denmark, July 13. THROUGHOUT the course of the six-day long course meter Danish Open held in Arhus, Denmark from July 7-12, seven Danish national records fell with Jakob Andkjaer accounting for three of them.<\/p>\n
Andkjaer took a torch to the Danish record book during the meet. During prelims of the 50 freestyle, he chopped .28 seconds from his previous record of 22.79 set on April 28, 2006 with a time of 22.51. He also clocked a 49.06 during leadoff duties in the 400 freestyle to take down his old national record of 49.67 in the 100 freestyle. He also clocked a 53.53 in the 100 butterfly to edge the 53.71 he had held since March 30, 2007.<\/p>\n
Two more national records fell in men's action as Mathias Gydesen touched in 26.09 in the 50 back to eclipse the 26.16 set by Jakob Andersen on May 12, 2004. Additionally, the Nordsjaelland Sigma relay of Gydesen, Simon Panduro, Anders Frahm and Emil Dall-Nielsen posted a time of 3:46.94 in the 400 medley. That performance wiped out the 3:47.70 set by West Swim on July 4, 2004.<\/p>\n
In women's action, Julie Hjorth-Hansen knocked nearly three seconds off her previous national record of 2:31.11 in the 200 breaststroke. This time, she hit the wall in 2:28.68 for the win.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Nordsjaelland Sigma relay of Lotte Friis, Hjorth-Hansen, Sofie Harnfeldt and Louise Jansen broke the women's 800 freestyle record with a time of 8:16.07. That effort nipped the 8:16.08 the club had previously set on March 23, 2005.<\/p>\n
Nordsjaelland Sigma also set a women's 800 freestyle relay junior national record as Emma Peen, Amalie Emma Thomsen, Michelle Strandskov and Harnfeldt stopped the clock in 8:42.00.
