TODAY, the Spanish Swimming Federation <a href=http:\/\/www.rfen.es\/publicacion\/noticias\/noticia_desarrollo.asp?n=495&#038;i target=_blank>responded<\/a> to Erika Villaecija and Eduard Lorente&#39;s comments made during a press conference as reported <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/15104.asp>here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish Swimming Federation considers the timing of the press conference as well as the comments made during the event to be harassment directed at the organization.  The comments came close to the Paris Grand Prix and the Spanish National Championships.<\/p>\n<p>After explaining the hard work the federation has undertaken to improve the sport within Spain, the federation states that it is bothered that Villaecija and Lorente have decided to speak out against the federation that helped guide them to success.  <\/p>\n<p>The federation also explains that the rules regarding swimsuit usage are clearly stated on its web site, and that Villaecija and Lorente should have complied with the swimsuit regulations. <\/p>\n<p>The federation also claims that the lawyers representing Villaecija and Lorente&#39;s coach, Joan Fortuny, are intentionally confusing the issues at hand in the court of public opinion.<\/p>\n<p>It should be interesting to see where the feud between the swimmers and the federation leads. <\/p>\n<p>Previously, Villaecija and Lorente stated that they may bypass the 2008 Beijing Olympics due to their feeling that the Spanish Swimming Federation has targeted them for their involvement with Fortuny, who the organization let go shortly after the World Championships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BARCELONA, Spain, July 12.
