SYDNEY, Australia, July 4. THREE more meet records fell during the second day of short course meter competition at the Trans Tasman Series stop in Sydney, Australia. The meet is a three-team battle between New Zealand and a split-squad Australian contingent. <\/p>\n
Ellen Fullerton, 14, of Australia dominated the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:43.66. That time chopped three seconds off the previous standard of 4:46.83 set by Angie Bainbridge. <\/p>\n
"I had a few races before that medley and I was obviously a bit tired so I just went into it trying to do my best, focusing on each stroke and I was able to come home pretty fast in the freestyle," Fullerton said. "That's a [personal best] for me and so I am very happy, especially considering the program here.<\/p>\n
"I have a pretty heavy program now and so I am really going to try and back up and do some more personal bests, which is definitely a great goal," Fullerton continued. "I also want to help my team through each meet."<\/p>\n
Fullerton's training partner, Daniel Smith, 16, picked off another meet record, this time with a win in the 200 free (1:48.76). Meanwhile, Charlotte Clarke, 16, defeated Grace Loh, 15, in the women's 50 backstroke shootout, 28.54 to 28.56, with a meet record effort.<\/p>\n
The head-to-head battles continued with Daniel Bell, 17, winning men's 50 back bragging rights over Calum Timms, 16, with a time of 26.00 to 26.45. In the 50 breast events, Starn Simpson, 16, beat Jeremy Meyer, 16, 29.34 to 30.05, while Jessica Legge, 14, took down Leiston Pickett, 15, by .03 seconds, 32.73 to 32.75.<\/p>\n
In other action, Tegan Warrener, 14, pocketed women's 100 free honors in 57.54, while Daniel Bell, 17, walked away with the men's 100 back crown in 55.94.<\/p>\n
Clarke knocked off Loh in another backstroke battle, this time in the 200 back, 2:16.14 to 2:16.85, while Declan Potts, 15, easily won the men's 800 free in 8:06.16.<\/p>\n
In the women's middle distance event, Ellese Zalewski, 15, touched first in the 400 with a time of 4:13.82, while Meyer won the men's 100 breast in 1:04.36.<\/p>\n
Other individual winners included Legge in the 200 breast (2:31.95), Ryan Napoleon, 17, in the 200 fly (2:01.53), Annabelle Anderson, 13, in the 100 fly (1:03.32) and Kieran Casey, 17, in the 200 IM (2:05.64). <\/p>\n
The series continues in Woy Woy on Wednesday and Thursday. The meet concludes in Canberra on Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n
