FRANZISKA Barthel, 8, became the youngest swimmer to complete the Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim on June 10.  The third grader from Caesar Chavez School finished the swim in 1:00:44.3 during the 1.5-mile event.<\/p>\n<p>Barthel surpassed the previous age record of 11 held by Chandler Vilander since swimming the event in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, her brother Ben placed second in his age group that included 13-year-olds when he clocked a 59:18.5.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SAN FRANCISCO, California, June 20.
