Phelps used a spectacular back half to post a time of 50.45, the best in the world this year, and faster than Le Clos swam at Worlds in Kazan earlier in the day. The time ranks as the fastest since Phelps set the world record in the event in 2009 (49.83) and ranks just behind Ian Crocker&#8217;s 50.40 from 2005 as the best-ever swim in a textile suit.<\/p>\n<p>After the race, an elated Phelps addressed the comments that Le Clos had made earlier in the day following his World title and how that motivated him going into the race tonight.
