FAIRBANKS, Alaska, June 12. ALASKA swimming head coach Scott Lemley announced the signings of three high school swimmers, Victoria (Tori) Reiss of Fairbanks, Alaska, Kinsey Laine of Silver Lake, Washington and Courtney Miller of Vancouver, Washington to National Letters of Intent for the University of Alaska Fairbanks.<\/p>\n
Reiss, a local prep standout and recent graduate of Lathrop High School, swam for the Malemutes and Lemely for four years. She set a new personal record in the 50yd freestyle as a senior this year, dropping her time by 1.5 seconds. Her career-best times include 1:00.08 in the 100yd freestyle, 27.08 in the 50yd freestyle and 1:14.21 in the 100yd butterfly. Reiss also competed with the Midnight Swim Club for eight and a half years.<\/p>\n
Laine prepped at Toutle Lake High School, where she swam and played water polo for the Fighting Ducks for four years. A four-time MVP she holds the school records in every individual event. She has also been named the most improved, the most inspirational and a team captain in her time at TLHS. This season she swam the 200yd individual medley with a personal best time of 2:17.44 and the 500yd freestyle in 5:22.21 to place second in both event races at the state championships.<\/p>\n
Laine also swam competitively for the Killer Whales Swim Club in Longview, Washington for 10 years, where she holds the club's records in the 200yd freestyle, 500yd freestyle, 1000yd freestyle 200yd butterfly and 400yd individual medley. She was a Northwest Section Age Group Championships qualifier from 2004-2007 and a Western Zone qualifier as a senior.<\/p>\n
Miller competed for a different high school then the one she graduated from. She pursued her high school diploma at the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics but competed for Columbia River High School in Vancouver.<\/p>\n
She swam the breastroke for four years with the Chieftains and was selected as a team captain as a senior and a Greater St. Helens All-League second team member as a sophomore. During her freshman season, CRHS went 12-0 on its way to the Greater St. Helens League Championship. She was an all-academic team selection for four years.<\/p>\n
Reiss, Laine and Miller join Abbey Jackson of Petersburg, Alaska, Mariya Pavlovskaya of Korlev City, Moscow, and Heidi Tilicki of Junction City, Oregon in the Nanook swim team's 2007 recruiting class.<\/p>\n
