Meili, who trains with SwimMAC in North Carolina, entered the meet with a 1:05.64 with over a one-second lead on the closest competitor. This morning, she swam a controlled race and still wound up 1.48 second ahead of the closest finisher.<\/p>\n<p>Meili: 31.35\/35.21<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jessica Hansen<\/strong>\u00a0jumped two spots to take second place in prelims with a 1:08.04.\u00a0<strong>Lilly King<\/strong>\u00a0(1:08.16),\u00a0<strong>Laura Sogar<\/strong>\u00a0(1:08.21),\u00a0<strong>Bridget Blood<\/strong>\u00a0(1:08.26),\u00a0<strong>Sarah Haase<\/strong>\u00a0(1:08.32),\u00a0<strong>Andrea Cottrell\u00a0<\/strong>(1:08.48), and\u00a0<strong>Emma Reaney<\/strong>\u00a0(1:08.54) are all clustered together in the top eight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emma Schoettmer<\/strong>\u00a0just missed making the top heat with her 1:08.62. A slower first 50 (32.55) plagued her against Reaney.\u00a0<strong>Georgia Bohl<\/strong>\u00a0took tenth in 1:08.64.\u00a0<strong>Bethany Galat<\/strong>\u00a0(1:08.78),\u00a0<strong>Molly Hannis\u00a0<\/strong>(1:08.82),\u00a0<strong>Miranda Tucker<\/strong>\u00a0(1:08.86),\u00a0<strong>Haley Spencer<\/strong>\u00a0(1:08.90),\u00a0<strong>Franko Jonker\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.23), and\u00a0<strong>Lindsey Horejsi\u00a0<\/strong>round out the consolation final heat.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100-meter Fly<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Jack Conger<\/strong>\u00a0dethroned\u00a0<strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong>\u00a0in this morning&#8217;s 100-meter fly prelim at USA Nationals. For the time being, Conger leads the event with a 51.97 heading into finals. In Phelps&#8217;s shadow, Conger blasted a huge 1:54.54 200-meter fly and dropped 5.73 seconds from his entry time last night. Conger added 0.33 seconds this morning, but it was enough to lead second-place Phelps. Phelps swam a 52.12 in a controlled race.<\/p>\n<p>Conger: 24.36\/27.61<\/p>\n<p>Phelps: 24.86\/27.26<\/p>\n<p>Tonight&#8217;s race should be a fun showdown of the nation&#8217;s top butterfly talent. In prelims of the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Conger would have been placed 13th with Phelps 14th.\u00a0<strong>Laszlo Cseh\u00a0<\/strong>led Worlds with a 50.91 prelims swim. American\u00a0<strong>Tom Shields\u00a0<\/strong>posted an impressive 51.09 to take second at prelims.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew Josa\u00a0<\/strong>clocked a 52.21 to claim the third seed, while\u00a0<strong>David Nolan<\/strong>\u00a0took fourth in 52.46.\u00a0<b>Giles Smith<\/b>\u00a0swam a 52.66 to get fifth, and\u00a0<strong>Tripp Cooper<\/strong>&#8216;s 52.88 earned him the sixth spot.\u00a0<strong>Connor Black\u00a0<\/strong>(53.03) edged\u00a0<strong>Braxston Timm\u00a0<\/strong>(53.06) to claim seventh.<\/p>\n<p>The B Final will feature\u00a0<strong>Carl Weigley<\/strong>\u00a0(53.12),\u00a0<strong>Long Gutierrez<\/strong>\u00a0(53.13),\u00a0<strong>Gunnar Bentz<\/strong>\u00a0(53.15),\u00a0<strong>Kyler Vanswol\u00a0<\/strong>(53.24),\u00a0<strong>Justin Lynch<\/strong>\u00a0(53.28),\u00a0<strong>Masa Kishida\u00a0<\/strong>(53.30),\u00a0<strong>Clark Smith<\/strong>\u00a0(53.33), and\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong>\u00a0(53.36).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50-meter Free<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Madison Kennedy\u00a0<\/strong>leads prelims as the only swimmer to crack 25 seconds in this morning&#8217;s 50-meter free race at USA Nationals. Kennedy&#8217;s 24.93 was a slight add from her entry time, but is more than enough to maintain her number-one seed.\u00a0<strong>Amanda Kendall\u00a0<\/strong>clocked a 25.23 to take second, a mere 0.02 seconds ahead of third-place finisher\u00a0<strong>Amanda Weir\u00a0<\/strong>(23.25). The 100-meter fly National Champion\u00a0<strong>Kelsi Worrell<\/strong>\u00a0zoomed to a 25.28 to claim fourth, while\u00a0<strong>Allyx Purcell<\/strong>&#8216;s 25.38 earned her the fifth spot.\u00a0<strong>Amy Bliquist<\/strong>\u00a0(25.41) edged\u00a0<strong>Faith Johnson\u00a0<\/strong>(25.42) for sixth.\u00a0<strong>Olivia Smoliga<\/strong>\u00a0rounds out the top eight with a 25.49.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lili Iba\u00f1ez Lopez\u00a0<\/strong>leads the consolation final with a 25.57, just ahead of\u00a0<strong>Madeline Locus<\/strong>&#8216;s 25.60. Locus dropped eight spots from her original seed.\u00a0<strong>Chase Kinney\u00a0<\/strong>(25.67),\u00a0<strong>Melissa Gates<\/strong>\u00a0(25.68),\u00a0<strong>Anika Apostalon<\/strong>\u00a0(25.70),\u00a0<strong>Katie Meili\u00a0<\/strong>(25.73), and\u00a0<strong>Jamie Stone<\/strong>\u00a0(25.76) also qualified for the B Final.\u00a0<b>Riki Bonnema<\/b>,\u00a0<strong>Felicia Lee<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Shuyu Sun<\/strong>\u00a0all tied for 16th in 25.78, which means they will all face off in a swim off at the end of the session.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50-meter Free<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Caaleb Dressel<\/strong>\u00a0busted out a 21.85 to claim the top spot in the men&#8217;s 50-meter free prelim at USA Nationals this morning. Dressel vaulted seven spots and dropped a half second en route to taking the number-one seed heading into tonight&#8217;s finals.\u00a0<strong>Josh Schneider<\/strong>\u00a0had a slight add to take second in 22.10.\u00a0<b>Cullen Jones<\/b>\u00a0finished immediately after Schneider with a 22.11.\u00a0<strong>Michael Chadwick\u00a0<\/strong>(22.25) and\u00a0<strong>Wyatt Ubellacker\u00a0<\/strong>(22.27) took fourth and fifth, respectively.\u00a0<strong>William Copeland<\/strong>&#8216;s 22.46 earned him sixth, while\u00a0<strong>Michael Trice\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Kyle Darmody\u00a0<\/strong>tied for the final two spots in 22.52.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight&#8217;s B Final includes\u00a0<strong>John Murray<\/strong>\u00a0(22.54),\u00a0<strong>Roland Schoeman<\/strong>\u00a0(22.55),\u00a0<strong>Daniel Kanorr<\/strong>\u00a0(22.58),\u00a0<strong>BJ Hornikel\u00a0<\/strong>(22.59),\u00a0<b>Erik Risolvato<\/b>\u00a0(22.65),\u00a0<strong>David Williams<\/strong>\u00a0(22.68),\u00a0<strong>Ryan Held<\/strong>\u00a0(22.70), and\u00a0<strong>Griffin Schumacher<\/strong>\u00a0(22.70).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 400-meter IM<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Caitlin Leverenz\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to the top spot in the women&#8217;s 400-meter IM prelim at USA Nationals this morning in 4:41.76. Leverenz added 6.30 seconds from her seed time, but she was able to comfortably control the session&#8217;s swim.<\/p>\n<p>Leverenz Splits<\/p>\n<p>1:03.00 &#8211; 1:12.94 &#8211; 1:19.13 &#8211; 1:06.69<\/p>\n<p><strong>Madisyn Cox<\/strong>, who finished second in the 200-meter IM, now holds the second seed with a 4:42.43.\u00a0<strong>Sarah Henry<\/strong>\u00a0sits right behind Cox at 4:42.84.\u00a0<strong>Emily Cameron\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 4:43.81 to earn fourth.
