SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND, May 28. Inge De Bruijn completed her devastation of the world records in the sprint butterfly and freestyle events today by breaking one of the toughest standards in the record book: Chinese swimmer Le Jingyi's 1994 mark in the 100 meter freestyle.<\/p>\n
The Dutch swimmer, who represents the Eindhoven Swim Club and trains part of the year with the Tualatin Hills Swim Club in Oregon, clocked a mind-boggling 53.80 at the Speedo Grand Prix meet at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.<\/p>\n
Le's record, believed by many experts to have been achieved with the help of performance-enhancing drugs, was 54.01.<\/p>\n
In the last week, De Bruijn also smashed world marks in the 50 butterfly (25.64), the 100 meter butterfly (56.69), and tied Le's record in the 50 meter freestyle (24.51).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
