His heavily anticipated return to USA Nationals marks another step on his comeback trail towards Rio in 2016. He dropped 2.47 seconds from his prelims time to clinch the top slot heading into finals.<\/p>\n<p>Phelps\u2019s time would have placed him third in prelims at the FINA World Championships in Kazan behind <strong>Laszlo Cseh <\/strong>and <strong>Viktor Bromer<\/strong>. Phelps demonstrated composure in his splits, and should see another drop tonight.<\/p>\n<p>Phelps: 25.92\/28.93\/29.82\/30.48<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jack Conger <\/strong>took second with a 1:56.19, and was followed by <strong>Pace Clark<\/strong>\u2019s 1:57.39. <strong>Clark Smith<\/strong> (1:57.59) and <strong>Dakota Hodgson<\/strong> (1:58.38) took fourth and fifth, respectively. The top seed entering the meet <strong>Andrew Seliskar<\/strong> ended prelims sixth in 1:58.58. <strong>Carlos Peralta Gallego<\/strong> (1:58.81) and <strong>John Martens<\/strong> (1:58.82) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n<p>The B Final will include <strong>Christian McCurdy <\/strong>(1:58.84), <strong>Sam McHugh<\/strong> (1:58.84), <strong>Gunnar Bentz <\/strong>(1:58.85), <strong>Cameron Brodie<\/strong> (1:58.90), <strong>Adam Hinshaw<\/strong> (1:58.99), <strong>Zach Harting<\/strong> (1:59.09), <strong>Thomas Luchsinger<\/strong> (1:59.13), and <strong>Justin Lynch<\/strong> (1:59.31).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2015-usa-swimming-long-course-summer-nationals-live-results\/usa-senior-national\/2015\/August\/6\">2015 USA Swimming Long Course Summer Nationals: Live Results &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Phelps controlled prelims of the men\u2019s 200-meter fly with a top time of 1:55.15 at USA Nationals, after entering the meet as the eighth-fastest seed.
