A slower starting leg from the United States&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Reed Malone<\/strong> (1:48.21) allowed for\u00a0<strong>Grant Hackett<\/strong>\u00a0(1:47.83) of Australia to create a solid lead for Australia.\u00a0<strong>Michael Weiss<\/strong> (1:46.14) of the United States was able to catch and pass\u00a0<strong>Kurt Herzog<\/strong> (1:47.96) to put the USA in a chance to win it, but Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daniel Smith<\/strong> (1:46.02) and\u00a0<strong>Thomas Fraser-Holmes<\/strong> (1:46.59) had enough in the tank to grab the lead and finish in 7:08.40.\u00a0<strong>Michael Klueh<\/strong> (1:47.67) and\u00a0<strong>Conor Dwyer<\/strong> (1:46.53) were able to close the gap slightly, finishing .15 seconds behind Australia with a 7:08.55.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s relay team of\u00a0<strong>Robert Renwick<\/strong> (1:47.43),\u00a0<strong>Nicholas Grainger<\/strong> (1:47.19),\u00a0<strong>Daniel Wallace<\/strong> (1:46.03) and\u00a0<strong>Duncan Scott<\/strong> (1:48.35) took third in prelims with a final time of 7:09.00.<\/p>\n<p>Germany was close behind with a time of 7:09.34 to position them in fourth for the up-coming finals, while Poland turned in a 7:10.20 for fifth.<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands (7:10.83), Russia (7:10.84) and Belgium (7:10.92) complete a close finals heat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SCHEDULED EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Men&#8217;s 50 Free<\/p>\n<p>Women&#8217;s 50 Fly<\/p>\n<p>Men&#8217;s 100 Fly<\/p>\n<p>Women&#8217;s 200 Back<\/p>\n<p>Men&#8217;s 4&#215;200 Free Relay<\/p>\n<p>Women&#8217;s 800 Free<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australia topped the men&#8217;s 800-meter free relay after an impressive race with the United States and Great Britain.
