{"id":148469,"date":"2015-08-06T01:05:14","date_gmt":"2015-08-06T08:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=148469"},"modified":"2015-08-06T01:05:14","modified_gmt":"2015-08-06T08:05:14","slug":"marco-koch-tops-loaded-200-breast-prelims-at-2015-fina-world-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/marco-koch-tops-loaded-200-breast-prelims-at-2015-fina-world-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Marco Koch Tops Loaded 200 Breast Prelims at 2015 FINA World Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Marco Koch<\/strong> led a handful of swimmers under 2:10 in the men&#8217;s 200-meter breast prelims at the 2015 FINA World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Koch clocked a top time of 2:09.12, just a bit off his third-ranked time of 2:08.57.<\/p>\n<p>In a truly shocking occurrence, following in line with <strong>Yuliya Efimova<\/strong> missing the women&#8217;s 200-meter breast semis, Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> finished 26th overall in 2:13.24. \u00a0He entered the day ranked second in the world with a 2:08.34 and was unable to summon that type of speed this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>Andrew Willis<\/strong> claimed the second seed in 2:09.35, just off his fifth-ranked 2:08.59, while China&#8217;s <strong>Mao Feilian<\/strong> picked up third in 2:09.56.<\/p>\n<p>Kazakhstan&#8217;s <strong>Dmitriy Balandin<\/strong> qualified fourth in 2:09.75, while three-time defending champion <strong>Daniel Gyurta<\/strong> made his way into semis with a 2:09.81.<\/p>\n<p>Finland&#8217;s <strong>Matti Mattsson<\/strong> (2:09.89), USA&#8217;s <strong>Kevin Cordes<\/strong> (2:09.94) and Russia&#8217;s <strong>Anton Chupkov<\/strong> (2:09.97) also broke 2:10 to make the top eight.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s <strong>Ilya Khomenko<\/strong> (2:10.13), Iceland&#8217;s <strong>Anton McKee<\/strong> (2:10.21), Sweden&#8217;s <strong>Erik Persson<\/strong> (2:10.51), USA&#8217;s <strong>Nic Fink<\/strong> (2:10.43), Japan&#8217;s <strong>Yasuhiro Koseki<\/strong> (2:10.47), Germany&#8217;s <strong>Christian Vom Lehn<\/strong> (2:10.71), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Luca Pizzini<\/strong> (2:11.00) and Lithuania&#8217;s <strong>Giedrius Titenis<\/strong> (2:11.11) rounded out the semifinal heats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cameron van der Burgh<\/strong> (21st\/2:12.37) and <strong>Glenn Snyders<\/strong> (23rd\/2:12.71) were among other big names like Peaty to miss semis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SCHEDULED EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 100 free<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 200 back<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 200 breast<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 200 breast<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 800 free relay<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marco Koch led a handful of swimmers under 2:10 in the men&#8217;s 200-meter breast prelims at the 2015 FINA World Championships.
