{"id":148253,"date":"2015-08-04T18:20:10","date_gmt":"2015-08-05T01:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=148253"},"modified":"2015-08-04T19:09:49","modified_gmt":"2015-08-05T02:09:49","slug":"sean-workman-among-winners-in-day-two-of-2015-ymca-long-course-national-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sean-workman-among-winners-in-day-two-of-2015-ymca-long-course-national-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Sean Workman Among Winners in Day Two of 2015 YMCA Long Course National Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2015 YMCA Long Course National Championships kicked off yesterday with a large variety of swimmers posting fast times.<\/p>\n<p>Night one of the meet featured the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s 1500-meter free.<\/p>\n<p>Hickory&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emmaline Peterson<\/strong> grabbed the win in the women&#8217;s 1500-meter free with a sizzling 16:50.75, finishing 6.26 seconds ahead of the competition.\u00a0<strong>Abbey Erwin<\/strong> of Downtown Boise claimed second overall with a 16:57.01, while Northwest&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Meghan Joram<\/strong> rounded out the top three with a 17:14.16 finish.<\/p>\n<p>Cheshire&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Karl Bishop<\/strong> smoked the competition in the men&#8217;s 1500-meter free with a final time of 15:47.16. Wilton&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robby Giller<\/strong> took second with a time of 15:54.99, while Ridley&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matthew Haigh<\/strong> was third with a finishing time of 16:01.54.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ali Galyer<\/strong> of Middle Tyger kicked off day two of the meet with a win in the\u00a0women&#8217;s 200-meter back posting\u00a0a sizzling 2:!5.55, finishing 2.91 seconds ahead of the competition. Countryside&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma Otten<\/strong> claimed second with a final time of 2:18.46, while\u00a0<strong>Kate Moore<\/strong> of Triangle Area took third with a 2:18.72.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sean Workman<\/strong> of Edwardsville-IL claimed the men&#8217;s 200-meter back title with a time of 2:03.92. Kishwaukee&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daniel Hein<\/strong> took second overall with a 2:05.17, while third went to Wilton&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ed Stolarski<\/strong> (2:06.44).<\/p>\n<p>Countryside&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Megan Sichterman\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed a narrow first-place finish\u00a0in the women&#8217;s 100-meter fly with a final time of 1:01.72.\u00a0<strong>Meredith Whisenhunt<\/strong> of Middle Tyger and\u00a0<strong>Caitlin Tycz<\/strong> of Bath Area\u00a0kept it close the entire race posting similar splits for the 50 and 100. Despite a faster first 50-meters from Tycz Whisenhunt was able to catch her and tie the race at 1:01.95. The two split the points for second.<\/p>\n<p>Fifteen-year-old <strong>David May<\/strong> of Cheshire bested the competition in the men&#8217;s 100-meter fly posting a final time of 55.09. May was the second youngest in the finals heat, with only sixth-place finisher\u00a0<strong>Brendan Burns\u00a0<\/strong>(14) younger than him.\u00a0Hein finished second with a time of 55.76, while\u00a0<strong>Jack Frazier<\/strong> of Middle Tyger claimed third with a 55.98.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cha O&#8217;Leary<\/strong> of Montclair claimed the win in the women&#8217;s 200-meter breaststroke posting a final time of 2:36.41. Wilton&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma\u00a0<\/strong><b>Holmquist<\/b> grabbed second with a 2:37.72, while Middle Tyger&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sydney Baker<\/strong> was third with a 2:38.47.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 200-meter breaststroke proved to be a close race with the top three finishers posting times within .56 seconds of each other. Fifteen-year-old <strong>Majester Abdul-Jalil<\/strong> bested the competition with a final time of 2:21.09.\u00a0<strong>Jacob Limaldi<\/strong>\u00a0of Red Bank took second with a time of 2:21.59, while Butler&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chad Cummings\u00a0<\/strong>finished third with a 2:21.65.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 200-meter medley relay went to Middle Tyger&#8217;s relay team who posted a final time of 1:57.57. Triangle Area took second with a 1:59.04, while FanwoodScotch was third with a 1:59.25.<\/p>\n<p>Cheshire&#8217;s relay team won out in the men&#8217;s 200-meter medley relay with a winning time of 1:46.10.
