{"id":147673,"date":"2015-08-02T20:56:19","date_gmt":"2015-08-03T03:56:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=147673"},"modified":"2015-08-02T20:56:19","modified_gmt":"2015-08-03T03:56:19","slug":"boilermaker-aquatics-crowned-team-champs-at-west-lafayette-futures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/boilermaker-aquatics-crowned-team-champs-at-west-lafayette-futures\/","title":{"rendered":"Boilermaker Aquatics Crowned Team Champs at West Lafayette Futures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Andy Ross, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The first ever Futures Championships concluded from West Lafayette on Sunday night with hometown Boilermaker Aquatics atop the team standings.<\/p>\n<p>The Women&#8217;s 100 free was first on the docket and it was <strong>Geena Freriks<\/strong> of Kentucky taking the win at 56.70 ahead of <strong>Kaitlyn Schorr<\/strong> of Southwest Stars at 56.84. Third in the race went to <strong>Kobie Melton<\/strong> of Huntsville Swim Association at 57.30. Freriks missed the trial cut of 56.49.<\/p>\n<p>The Men&#8217;s 100 free went the way of <strong>Michael Dugan<\/strong> of Stingrays for his second win of the meet at 51.45. <strong>Christopher Kearney<\/strong> finished in second at 51.90 and <strong>Jes Stephens<\/strong> of Boilermaker Aquatics finished in third at 51.93.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nate Hopkins<\/strong> of Boilermaker won the 800 free with an 8:24.32 in which he out dueled <strong>William Bresette<\/strong> of Empire Swim Club at 8:25.07. <strong>Hayden Curley<\/strong> of Highlander was third from an earlier heat with an 8:28.41.<\/p>\n<p>The Women&#8217;s 200 back was a close finish down to the wire with <strong>Kelly Leonard<\/strong> of Riptide taking it at 2:16.99 missing the trial cut of 2:16.59. <strong>Kayla Churman<\/strong> of Kentucky was right behind her for second at 2:17.66 and <strong>Emma Gourdie<\/strong> of Mt. Pleasant was third at 2:17.90. The top three swimmers are all eligible for the junior national cuts that they achieved in finals.<\/p>\n<p>The Men&#8217;s 200 back was a near miss by <strong>Jake Thomas<\/strong> of Boilermaker at 2:03.81. He missed the cut of 2:03.79. <strong>Samuel Marlow<\/strong> of Rockwood was second at 2:06.17 and <strong>Tucson Dunn<\/strong> was third from Southern Crescent at 2:06.49. Thomas however did achieve the Senior National cut that was 2:03.99.<\/p>\n<p>The Women&#8217;s 1500 was won by <strong>Kelly Berger<\/strong> of Kentucky from an earlier heat at 17:07.03. <strong>Emily Meckstroth<\/strong> of Michiana Stars was second at 17:10.97 and <strong>Alicia Mancilla<\/strong> of Gulliver Swim Club was third at 17:20.31.<\/p>\n<p>The lone trial cut of the night went to 14-year-old <strong>Kathleen Golding<\/strong> of South Florida Aquatic Club in the 200 IM at 2:18.67 getting under the 2:18.69. <strong>Allison Kopas<\/strong> of Swim Fort Lauderdale was second at 2:21.35 and <strong>Carolyn Jungers<\/strong> of Schroeder YMCA was third at 2:21.74.<\/p>\n<p>The Men&#8217;s 200 IM was a tight battle down to the wire with <strong>Sam Iida<\/strong> of Glenview Titan claiming the win at 2:06.04 overtaking <strong>Adam Kastigar<\/strong> of Aberdeen Swim Club at 2:06.53. <strong>Hudson Bursch<\/strong> of Michiana Stars was third at 2:08.31.<\/p>\n<p>Swim Fort Lauderdale won the Women&#8217;s 400 medley relay with a 4:20.44 with <strong>Amanda Tipton<\/strong>, <strong>Caitlin Ahern<\/strong>, <strong>Elizabeth Zubero<\/strong> and <strong>Allison Kopas<\/strong> ahead of Miami Swimming South Florida Aquatic Club.<\/p>\n<p>The final event of the meet went to Dynamo Swim Club overtaking Boilermaker Aquatics in the Men&#8217;s 400 medley relay. Boilermaker had won the first two men&#8217;s relays and Dynamo stole the last relay thanks to a swift 1:03 split from 14-year-old <strong>Liam Bell<\/strong>. Other members of the relay were <strong>Christopher Anderson<\/strong>, <strong>Christian Lorys<\/strong> and <strong>Alex Bemiller<\/strong>. They won it with a 3:53.20. Boilermaker was second at 3:54.17 and Indiana University Swim Team was third at 3:54.29.<\/p>\n<p>The individual high point award went to <strong>Gabrielle Stecker<\/strong> of Unattached Illinois and <strong>Michael Dugan<\/strong> of Stingrays. The women&#8217;s team high point went to Columbia Swim Club and the men&#8217;s high point went to Boilermaker Aquatics.
