{"id":147222,"date":"2015-08-01T20:28:20","date_gmt":"2015-08-02T03:28:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=147222"},"modified":"2015-08-01T20:28:20","modified_gmt":"2015-08-02T03:28:20","slug":"more-omaha-tickets-punched-at-west-lafayette-futures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/more-omaha-tickets-punched-at-west-lafayette-futures\/","title":{"rendered":"More Omaha Tickets Punched at West Lafayette Futures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Andy Ross, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Four more Olympic Trial cuts were swum on Night 3 of the Futures Championship from West Lafayette on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The meet got started with <strong>Kyla Valls<\/strong> of Miami Swimming punching her ticket to Omaha with a 2:14.80 in the 200 fly to get under the cut. <strong>Elaine Zhou<\/strong> of Mt. Pleasant was second at 2:17.82 and <strong>Kayla Churman<\/strong> of Kentucky was third at 2:18.28.<\/p>\n<p>The next trial cut of the night went to <strong>Haley Downey<\/strong> of Splash Club in the 200 breast at 2:34.84. Second place went to <strong>Jessica Rodriguez<\/strong> of South Florida Aquatic Club at 2:36.88. Third went to <strong>Emma Hruby<\/strong> of Iowa Flyers at 2:37.03.<\/p>\n<p>After achieving the cut in the morning, <strong>Ethan King<\/strong> of Memphis Thunder won the 100 back at finals with a 56.42. He dragged along <strong>Tucson Dunn<\/strong> of Southern Crescent to second and a trial cut as well at 57.09. <strong>James Beckman<\/strong> of Munster Swim Club was third at 57.25 just missing the cut. King will be a junior at the Naval Academy in the fall.<\/p>\n<p>There were a few near misses on the night as well. <strong>Kaitlynn Schorr<\/strong> of Southwest Stars won the 50 free at 26.38 missing the cut by 0.19 seconds. <strong>Anna Miller<\/strong> of Rockwood Swim Club was second at 26.64 and <strong>Kobie Melton<\/strong> was third at 26.66.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Justin White<\/strong> of Team Millennium just missed the cut in the 50 with a 23.36, missing it by 0.07 seconds. <strong>Ben Carter<\/strong> of Michiana Stars was second at 23.77 and <strong>Nate Thomas<\/strong> of Boilermaker Aquatics was third at 23.80. White will be a junior at Lehigh University.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marc Rojas<\/strong> of South Florida Aquatic Club won the 200 breast with a senior national cut at 2:18.97. Second went to <strong>Liam Bell<\/strong> of Dynamo Swim Club with a 2:19.09. Both swimmers missed the trial cut that was 2:18.39. However, with that swim, Bell became the second fastest 13-14 swimmer in the event behind only <strong>Reece Whitley<\/strong>. <strong>Sam Iida<\/strong> of Glenview Titan Aquatic Club was third at 2:20.05. Also featured in that race was yours truly in sixth place at 2:23.06. Rojas will be a senior at Florida State University.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Dugan<\/strong> of Stingrays claimed his first win of the meet in the 400 free with a 3:59.71 just a second over the trial cut. Second and third went to Boilermaker Aquatics teammates <strong>Luke Trimmer<\/strong> (4:01.42) and <strong>Nate Hopkins<\/strong> (4:01.99). Dugan will be a senior at East Carolina University.<\/p>\n<p>Other events on the night included a win by <strong>Elijah Patrick<\/strong> of Nashville Aquatic Club in the 200 fly at 2:04.09. He finished ahead of <strong>Mitchell Strahlman<\/strong> of Hickory Willow Swim Association (2:05.18) and <strong>Jacob Smith<\/strong> of Lakeside Swim Team (2:05.33).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sophia Sorenson<\/strong> of Ames Cyclone Aquatic Club won the 100 back at 1:04.43 under the junior national cut time.
