{"id":146807,"date":"2015-07-31T15:16:40","date_gmt":"2015-07-31T22:16:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=146807"},"modified":"2015-07-31T15:41:08","modified_gmt":"2015-07-31T22:41:08","slug":"clark-record-british-summer-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/clark-record-british-summer-nationals\/","title":{"rendered":"Imogen Clark Breaks Age Group Record At British Summer Nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Seren Jones, Swimming World College Intern.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s day four and Britain&#8217;s age-group and youth swimmers like <strong>Imogen Clark<\/strong> continue to smash their best times and their national records at the British Summer Nationals.<\/p>\n<p>16-year-old <strong>Imogen Clark<\/strong> of Derventio broke the age-group record in the 50 breaststroke by 0.4 as she stormed to first place in 31.04 seconds. <strong>Erin Robertson<\/strong> of South Ayreshire touched in second in 32.11, and <strong>Leah Roughan<\/strong> touched in third in 33.03.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alys Thomas<\/strong> of Swansea Aquatics earned her second gold medal of the meet as she claimed the 200 butterfly title in a time of 2:10.65. She touched the wall a second ahead of Manchester&#8217;s <strong>Emma Smithurst<\/strong>, who finished in a time of 2:11.55, and two seconds ahead of Bath University&#8217;s <strong>Tilly Gray<\/strong>, who earned the bronze medal in 2:12.09.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Miles Munro<\/strong> of Bath University proved to be the only male to go sub 50 seconds in the men&#8217;s 100 freestyle event. Munro stormed to first place in a time of 49.65, followed by Edinburgh University&#8217;s <strong>Jack Thorpe<\/strong>, who touched in 50.39, and University of Stirling&#8217;s <strong>Jack Scott<\/strong>, who touched only 0.1 behind Thorpe in 50.42 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s multi-disciplinary event <strong>Jessica-Jane Applegate<\/strong> of UEA Norwich continued her success and took the 200 IM in a time of 2:27.71 <strong>Chloe Davies<\/strong> of Swansea Aquatics earned the silver medal in 2:32.48, and <strong>Amy Marren<\/strong> of Romford Town earned her second bronze medal of the meet and touched the wall in 2:38.83. Applegate and Davies belong to category 14, while Marren belongs to category nine.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side Hereford&#8217;s <strong>Sascha Kindred<\/strong> who belongs to category six earned the gold medal in a time of 2:42.48. Manchester&#8217;s <strong>Thomas Hamer<\/strong> earned silver in 2:17.94, and <strong>Craig Harris<\/strong> of Swansea Aquatics earned the bronze medal in a time of 2:19.77 respectively. Hamer and Harris belong to category 14.<\/p>\n<p>Manchester&#8217;s <strong>Jessica Fullalove<\/strong> swam the fastest 200 backstroke of the evening as she stole the event in a time of 2:10.01, over two seconds ahead of Peterborough&#8217;s <strong>Chloe Hannam<\/strong> who touched second in 2:12.83. <strong>Jaeger Turner <\/strong>of Salford touched in third place in a time of 2:15.22.<\/p>\n<p><strong>James Wilby<\/strong> of Loughborough University swam the quickest 100 breaststroke of the evening, touching out Manchester&#8217;s <strong>Christopher Steeples<\/strong> by 0.4. Wilby won the event in a time of 1:00.48, while Steeples just missed out on gold with his time of 1:00.86. In third place was <strong>Lawrence Palmer<\/strong> of Putteridge, who touched in 1:01.42.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s multi-disciplinary 100 freestyle event <strong>Matthew Walker<\/strong> of Manchester claimed the event in 28.43. The category seven swimmer touched the wall two seconds behind category nine swimmer <strong>Matthew Wylie<\/strong> of Sunderland. Wylie earned silver in a time of 26.40, and teammate <strong>Josef Craig<\/strong> earned bronze 27.59. Craig belongs to category eight.<\/p>\n<p>On the women&#8217;s side Woking&#8217;s <strong>Hannah Russell<\/strong> of category 12 took the event by three seconds with a time of 27.22. <strong>Marren<\/strong> touched in second in 30.45 and <strong>Eleanor Robinson<\/strong> of Northampton took third place in 36.97. Robinson belongs to category six.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adam Taylor<\/strong> of Sunderland took the 50 butterfly, storming to victory in just 24.16 seconds. <strong>Adam Fawl<\/strong> of Loughborough followed in 24.50 and teammate Kane <strong>Haggett<\/strong> touched in third in 24.55 seconds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The City of Sheffield<\/strong> was victorious in the last event of the evening when its women&#8217;s team took gold the 8&#215;200 freestyle relay in 8:13.88.
