﻿{"id":146500,"date":"2015-07-30T15:49:06","date_gmt":"2015-07-30T22:49:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=146500"},"modified":"2015-07-30T15:49:06","modified_gmt":"2015-07-30T22:49:06","slug":"records-crash-british-summer-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/records-crash-british-summer-nationals\/","title":{"rendered":"Records Continue To Crash At British Summer Nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Seren Jones, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SHEFFIELD &#8211; Day three of the British Summer Nationals kicked off with a new record in the men&#8217;s 13\/14 age-group final in the 200 IM. <strong>Charlie Hutchinson<\/strong> of Ellesmere College took the 13 years and under age-group record by three seconds, touching the wall in second place with a time of 2:11.64. 14 year-old <strong>Joel Thompson<\/strong> of Shiverers claimed victory in a time of 2:11.41, and <strong>Sam Dailley<\/strong> of Plymouth Leander took bronze in 2:13.61.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s multi-disciplinary event <strong>Hannah Russell<\/strong> of Woking grabbed gold in the 100 freestyle touching the wall in 59.26 seconds, being the only swimmer to go under a minute. <strong>Alice Tai<\/strong> of Bournemouth College earned the silver medal in 1:03.92, and <strong>Amy Marren<\/strong> of Romford Town earned the bronze in a time of 1:05.61. Russell belongs to category 12, Tai to category ten, and Marren to category nine.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side, teammates <strong>Josef Craig<\/strong> and <strong>Matthew Wylie<\/strong> of Sunderland took the top two spots in the event. Craig (category eight) was victorious in a time of 59.19 while Wylie (category nine) earned silver in 58.12 seconds. <strong>Lewis White<\/strong> of Derby was also in category nine and touched the wall in a time of 59.10 earning third place.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s 100 freestyle the fastest times came from the 17\/18 age-group as <strong>Harriett Cooper<\/strong> of Derby earned her second gold of the week winning the event in 55.30 seconds. In second place was <strong>Katie Latham<\/strong> of Thanet Swim in a time of 55.83, and in third was <strong>Georgina Boyle<\/strong> of Chelsea and West in 56.02.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s 200 butterfly <strong>Hutchinson<\/strong> took his second record in the 13 year-old age-group and earned his second silver medal of the evening in a time of 2:08.05. 14 year-old <strong>Sam Dailley<\/strong> of Plymouth Leander grabbed gold in 2:07.31, and <strong>Leo Karski<\/strong> of Boldmere took bronze in 2:12.71 respectively. In the 19 years and over age-group Bath University&#8217;s <strong>Jay Lelliott<\/strong> earned his second gold medal of the week as he took the event in a new British record of 1:58.03. In second was teammate <strong>Matthew Johnson<\/strong> in 1:59.58, and in third was <strong>Michael Gunning<\/strong> of London Aquatics in 1:59.91.<\/p>\n<p>The fastest time in the women&#8217;s 200 breaststroke came from 15 year-old <strong>Lara Bate<\/strong> of Manchester Aquatics as she broke the age-group record in a time of 2:26.55. Bate touched out <strong>Layla Black<\/strong> of Leeds by only 0.05. Black, who also broke the previous record of 2:26.81, earned silver in 2:26.60, while Sheffield&#8217;s <strong>Amy Bell<\/strong> took bronze in 2:31.75.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s multi-disciplinary event Warrender&#8217;s <strong>Scott Quin<\/strong> claimed the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:07.85. Also touching the wall under the 1:10 mark was <strong>Aaron Moores<\/strong> of Trowbridge in 1:08.22. <strong>Conner Morrison<\/strong> of Garrioch took bronze in 1:13.08. All three swimmers swim in category 14.<\/p>\n<p>Nova Centurion&#8217;s <strong>Charlotte Henshaw<\/strong> in category 6 took the title of the women&#8217;s multi-disciplinary 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:37.51. Earning the silver was <strong>Harriett Lee<\/strong> of T North WP in 1:20.60, while <strong>Claire Cashmore<\/strong> of Wyre Forest earned bronze in 1:21.30. Lee belongs to category nine while Cashmore belongs to category eight.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s 50 backstroke <strong>Joe Elwood<\/strong> from Loughborough University stole the splash and dash event in 25.45 seconds, almost one whole second ahead of second place <strong>Oliver Smith<\/strong> of Cockermouth who touched the wall in 26.39. Sunderland&#8217;s <strong>Adam Taylor<\/strong> touched in third place in 26.47, only 0.1 away from the silver medal.<\/p>\n<p>In the final event of the evening Sheffield grabbed gold in the men&#8217;s 800 freestyle relay in a time of 7:23.56, three seconds ahead of Swansea Aquatics, who touched in 7:26.22, claiming their second silver medal in a relay event. Millfield School earned the bronze medal touching the wall in 7:28.73.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\/results\/2015-british-summer-nationals-day-3-day-3\/international-elite\/2015\/July\/28\"
