PHOENIX, Arizona, April 28. AFTER a short lull in action from the swimming community, the movers and shakers were back with a vengeance this week, as reported by SwimmingWorldMagazine.com. In possibly the biggest news of the week, FINA elected to not ratify Libby Lenton's leadoff leg (52.99) of Australia's mixed 400 free relay at the Duel in the Pool because the organization does not recognize the mixed race as an event. Therefore, Britta Steffen's 53.30 remained on the books as the top women's 100 free record. Although, that can't take away the confidence Lenton gained from posting a time that fast.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Michael Phelps (the man Lenton swam against en route to the 52.99) announced he would participate in the Mare Nostrum series. That should add some firepower to the European event.<\/p>\n

Phelps, however, lost a teammate as Klete Keller left Club Wolverine to return to the University of Southern California to train as well as return to school to complete his degree. The Kellers seem to be ships passing in the night as sister Kalyn recently made the move from USC to Club Wolverine.<\/p>\n
