She won the first gold medal of the synchro competition as well as the first medal for team Russia \u2013 the host country of the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>With 95,2680 points <strong>Svetlana Romashina<\/strong> was ahead of <strong>Ona Carbonell<\/strong> from Spain (93,1284) with her impressive \u201cRequiem for a dream\u201d and Chinese <strong>Sun Wenyan<\/strong> (91,5479). In fact, two years ago in Barcelona team Spain managed to get only bronze in all solo and duo events losing to China, which once again made a strong impact then after six silver medals in Shanghai-2011. So Ona&#8217;s silver in Kazan was a good start for Spain and a successful attempt to get their second position back.<\/p>\n<p>As for <strong>Svetlana Romashina<\/strong>, she had her solo debut here, in Kazan, at the Universiade in 2013. As the leader of the Russian team, three-time Olympic champion and 16-time World champion <strong>Natalya Ischenko<\/strong> took a time-out and a maternity leave after London 2012, Romashina tried herself in solo performances. It was a challenge for her, but she succeeded. She won gold medals at the Students Games, at the FINA World Championships in Bar\u0441elona 2013 and at the European Championships in Berlin 2014. Romashina impressed the judges and the audience with her Marilyn Monroe free program (the musical theme from \u00abSome like it hot\u00bb).<\/p>\n<p>This time we could see Svetlana only in tech solo. And Natalya Ischenko will make a \u201ccome back\u201d in the free routine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quotes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gold medallist, Svetlana Romashina:<\/strong> \u201cIn some way \u201cPretty woman\u201d is much alike my \u201cMarilyn Monroe\u201d routine. At the same time they are quite different. But they are both in my style. They suit me perfectly. The technical routine is always a risk. That\u2019s why I tried to think not only about the image. I was very focused before the final. We are the leaders in synchronized swimming. And if we want to keep this high position we should be prepared 200 percent. My parent and my boyfriend were on the tribunes, cheering me up with handmade posters. was very important for me to show my very best performance to excite them and to show the results of my everyday training\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Silver medallist, Ona Carbonell<\/strong> \u201cFor this edition of the World Championships I decided to focus on solo and mixed duets only. I have decided not to participate in the team and free combination events because it is hard to take part in all of them, physically and mentally, especially a year before the Olympics.
